Yes we do expprt gas and coal and will do so for as long as others want i.
But remember most of our coal is coking coal used in the manufacturing of steel, without carbon all you have is cast iron.

Yes China buy our thermal coal, for many parts of China it is needed to keep the people warm and to run power stations.
Since the Russians tried to invade Ukraine the price of Thermal coal from Australia is now higher than Coking coal. Also with the down turn in the world economy the demand for coking coal has tailed off somewhat, steel production in China has dropped.

Can understand Australian need to export fossil fuels etc!

    Australia’s Top 10 Exports
Ores, slag, ash: US$132.1 billion (38.3% of total exports)
Mineral fuels including oil: $91 billion (26.4%)
Gems, precious metals: $20.7 billion (6%)
    Meat: $11.6 billion (3.4%)
    Cereals: $10.1 billion (2.9%)
    Inorganic chemicals: $6.4 billion (1.9%)
Machinery including computers: $4.8 billion (1.4%)
    Aluminum: $4.7 billion (1.4%)
    Copper: $3.9 billion (1.1%)
Electrical machinery, equipment: $3.7 billion (1.1%)

Now large deposits of natural Hydrogen have been found in the ground in a similar way to natural gas.
    High prices in Iceland!!

Did not think they were any higher than in London on our trip to both last year.
Petrol was about the same as was beer for the most.
But found some tourist trinkets and memorabilia cheap compared to some other countries.

As to coal be it thermal or cocking, the demand varies throughout the year.
But I see no problem with so called 'fossil' fuels, they are the end products of a natural process of the earth.

natural deposits of Hydrogen have now been found and mining of it will begin within 3 years.

Last year diesel was about £1.70 / ltr. (petrol was cheaper) Beer was £3+/pint. If they were selling beer at same price as fuel there would be mass crowd problems trying to get in the pub

#24 But I see no problem with so called 'fossil' fuels, they are the end products of a natural process of the earth, true John but they will also be the reason for the end of the inhabitants of the earth.

But hi ho it will not be a problem for our generation.

Easily done John follow the science even the oil companies have admitted that fossil fuels are causing climate change. ESSO knew that as far back as the 70's

Ivan, posr 28 that's the biggest bit of disinformation published this year. I regularly check the status of the national grid and all UK coal fired power stations have been running and producing electricity of various outputs for the past 18 months.
