Fouro, I can remember pestering my mother for tackety boots when I was in junior school, lots of kids had them, but she wouldn't buy me them. Some of the girls wore those plastic sandals winter and summer, often without socks; they had a tough upbringing.

    Sorry of topic,
Did you get my PM Terry?
Back on topic, more ore less.
How many remember wearing short pants winter and summer?
I didn't have a pair of long pants until I went to high school.
    And I lived in Durham.
    Most times cold and wet.

Did you ever get your welly boots made into clogs, we had a cobbler who made the bottoms him self then cut the bottoms off your welly boot and studded them to his wooden soles to make them water proof then you got the shoe irons which were great making a slide if the ground was icy or snow but with the snow which stuck to them made you taller kicked off against a wall was great fun taking a good run at the slide to see who could get the furthest. Den, That post is worth its weight in gold mate laughed my bloody head off, Sadly i was never out of my wellies long enough to get them into a cobbler, It was only when i got my letter to travel to Gravesend and my train ticket that i got a pair of shoes and they were hand me downs possibly of one of my 52 cousins, Big family Den, My old man had 8 brothers and 3 sisters, My lovely old Mam had 5 sisters and 5 brothers Two of her brothers and two of her sisters were adopted by my old Gran and brought up as her own. One of her brothers married a Windrush girl she had 11 kids, There all Grand parents now I can honestly say we have never had a wedding a funeral or any other occasion were we all attended. Very best regards Den Terry.

Terry you only got them clogged when you were coming out of the bottom of them, the cobbler worked out of his garden shed (cappy missed a opportunity there) his son ended up playing for Bolton Derek Henning. Den
