As i had posted some time back about Chickens.
My late Dad had a small Chicken Farm when we were in Apple Orchards , amongst other things as well, Cows, and lots of Fruit Trees and Vege Gardens.
Anyway we had to stand watch over the Chicken Run during the days as we used to get the Hawks that swooped down on them and killed them, taking them with of course.
As we did not have a complete enclosed Run, no overhead Netting.

Dad used to do a lot of that in his spare time, standing there with his .22 Rifle , we as young uns had the pellet Guns but they were quite powerful as well, did the job of at least scaring the Hawks away.

Now to the chase, well when we neede to kill a Chicken or three, for personal use, all my Dad did was to catch a Chook, hold it under his Arm and with the other hand jusr very fast wrung its Neck, so quick that i am sure the Chook never even know he was a gonner!
    Cheers

WE had a lever arrangement fixed to the side of a door, neck went into the hole, lever came down and good night nurse.

Lunch time drinking is not for me, I fall asleep after that, have one beer with lunch on a cruise is fine, but they have some great draught beer on some of the ships, and very often in the 'wheel house' bar, reminds me at times of the Pig.
    Happy daze John in Oz.
