    Default Crisis

Two days ago my microwave blew up. 7 years old. Ok. About the usual life span of most kitchen appliances. No prob. Click on Amazon, 2 day delivery. Took busted appliance to the local tip and returned home. Walked in the kitchen- OMG! 'It's gone' I said to Her indoors when the reality hit me like a train. How do you defrost frozen food or make porridge or cook vegetables? How do I turn the stove on? My attempts to make porridge yesterday morning resulted in me burning the ar*e out of two saucepans. It seems we all depend on microwaves today. Years ago the culinary purists would deny their existence and even today there are deniers, those who suggest that eating food that is still cooking is harmful to your health. Bo****ks! Good news is, my replacement arrived this morning. We bought the same model as before. It's sitting there as though it had never gone away, I'm sure it's been cloned. Off to the shops now to purchase a new set of saucepans.

The only crisis that occurs in our house is when wifey is forced into doing the ironing due to the mountain of clean dry clothes atop the tumble drier, she hates ironing but when I was at sea I used to find it quite therapeutic.

Thanks for the economic tips Marian. Unfortunately those pots are now residing at the tip along with my late microwave.

Yes the Microwave is one good appliance! Use it a lot too and have had ours since 1980 now , only once replaced the little thing that adjusts the Heat ? It was only $20. So good value this one ! Hold Thumbs !!
As for other cooking, Eggs in the Microwave! Never hate that, Scrambled Eggs in the Pan only , with chopped Onions and Chopped Bacon. Yummy!
A lot of other cooking i still do in the normal manner, as i think it keeps the flavours a lot more!.Porridge i love to Cook on the Stove and the Mealie Meal i use is terrific! Nice and smooth and creamy too!

As for Ironing, well think it is one Job that most Ladies dont like, my Wife too being one ! But as always she just gets on with it when necessary, she is a Rock!

    Cheers

Did learn how to sew, wash clothes, wash up, hoover / dust etc and cook
at an early age, on my own not a prob. in a relationship it was all done
before I got around to it.

    C'est la vie.

Anyone ever notice that from the time people started using microwave ovens , so did the increase in women's breast cancer, most microwaves are at chest height. They put three big new microwave cookers in Blacktown hospital in Sydney, and six months later four women cooks came down with breast cancer. Just a thought while you cook your eggs.

On average, microwaves only penetrate to about one and half inches.
So much depends on how thick one is. Generally no one stands in
front of of one as it cooks, push start and do something else until
it goes ping. The risk described is understandable since the word
radiation inspires caution and fear for many. However, microwaves
    operate using non-ionizing radiation.

First micro wave oven I saw was in 1967 in London hotel where I did some relief work.
As to kitchen appliances wearing out, it need not happen just give the wife a bit more time to do what she has and she will last a life time.

Mainly use mine for frozen veg when I use such, cooking rice or reheating.
Some items under the grill, but for most, meat, fish and veg in the Wok.
The most versatile cooking appliance there is.
    Happy daze John in Oz.
