Re: Death penalty
I have watched some Executions
I went ashore in Saudi with our Agent, we were stopped by the police at the square and made to join a crowd, including school kids,. three men were to be Beheaded for raping a boy.
Everyone is forced to watch, three had to kneel down on a white sheet, the Executioner with a sword did a dance around the Victims and then wallop, a head falls off, a clean stroke, a fountain of blood, the man rolls over, The crowd Cheer, He has to cut it off in one stroke. then the next one and again.
quite gruesome, but the crowd enjoyed it.
In Padang Sumatra in 1960 an American Pilot whose plane had been shot down was stood against a godown wall and a firing squad shot him right alongside our ship.
it is in my story, "A VOYAGE TO THE SPICE ISLANDS",.
Of those, Hanging is a better way to go

Greater majority of those involved are of some ethnic nationality.
John my friend you must take into consideration the Populations of each Country to get the true Picture of the Crime rate.
With Australia being such a massive place but very sparsley inhabited as things go, the Crime rate here is High!
Google a few Figures on this around the World as far as Population is concerned and you will see what i mean
Cheers
Would not like to think what it would be if we had a population of the UK ????? eEEEEEK!!

Re: Death penalty
I agree there Vernon, but we do not have the crime of murder in any rate compared to other nations.
But we do have a very high rate of family violence and violence against Police, Ambos, and hospital staff.
Then we have the polis who commit crimes against all of us, just look at the tax system.
Happy daze John in Oz.

Re: Death penalty
Would be interesting Kong to see if the remaining 22 states had comparable capital murder offences.

Re: Death penalty
Mostly this thread is about the Death Penalty being used to punish murderers in the UK, but many people have died simply for having
the "Wrong Religeon" , people have been urnt at the stake and been Martyr'd because they wouldn't renounce their religion, or for being
accused of Witchcraft on the flimsiest evidence, but mostly on lies, Mathew Hopkins was a "Witch Hunter" and self proclaimed "Witch
Finder General" he was probabley nothing more than a sadist, at York in 1556 Margaret Citherow "a Catholic" would not admit to hiding
Catolic preist, she was dragged into the street, stripped naked, then had a heavy door placed upon her, heavy stones/rocks were placed on
the door until she was crushed to death, in the 1970s she was made a Saint ,b the Pope of that time, Juveniles have been hung in England
for crimes that woult now be very petty, you think it couldn't get worse but it did, In the 19th century they decided on a fate worse than death,,
"THEY SENT THE POOR BUGGERS TO AUSTRALIA" , cheers.
