#14 John S. You may have heard of the Battle of Otterburn. This song is a version The Lammas Tide. Long before Hollywood cattle rustling was a pastime on the English/Scottish boarder. This involves the Black Douglass, which may be a good reason your mother wanted no connection with that side.

#21 I was always under the impression they were two different clans and had different tartans , but as was just something I didn’t take too much notice of , is this true or not ? Added to the fact that if she broke into Gaelic I didn’t have a clue in any case, my old man was very broad Geordie and just as bad at times . My wife was only 17 when I met her and she being a Gateshead girl used to interpret for me. I think Marian at one time put up the real words of “ The boy stood on the burning deck” my mothers version being one of her favourites was the boy stood on the burning deck a jellie piece in his hand , and various other bits I thought sounded not right somehow. Think my old mans faVourite was “ Taffie was a Welshman Taffie was a Thief” That in a broad Geordie accent can also sound weird. Cheers JS.....

Every year as a young lad I would go up to my aunt in East Bolden for about six weeks or so.
By the time I came back I was just about able to understand what they were saying, going between Sunderland, Newcastle and Shields.
Then have to start all over again the next year.

But do recall a song about the bleedin races.
    Happy daze John in Oz.

good morning i think that the geordies on the whole should be properly represented in todays society, something that would be a benifit similar to that australian senior attache to culture les patterson, whom has brought his own special meaning to culture, which i feel could benifit the geordies immensely, i will leave it there for you to mull it over,
but just to say a scouser would repeat your phrase in this manner trow de ammer over ere,

Although his men won the battle of Otterburn, James Douglas second Earl of Douglas was slain during the battle. His body was taken back to Scotland and buried beside the tomb of his father, the Black Douglas in Melrose Abbey.

#28 There may of been traces of sanity in my Aunts ramblings then Fouro. When we are younger and dealing with older people we put a lot down to their disabilitys which a lot of us are now finding out the hard way personally. As I am not insane as he screamed as they carried him away in a straight jacket. I can or used to be able to slip handcuffs so will have to start practising again. Cheers JS.

Thanks for that Furro, so much of the history of UK is unknown and no longer taught in schools.

The practice of removing parts of the dead body hoes way back to the time of the Pharos, when they fell off the perch much of their organs including the brain were removed and put into jars the buried with them.
The brain was removed with a scalpel of sorts up through the nose.

Bit like have a Virus tets.
