good afternoon, no wonder the ausies call us the whinging poms,
ps went to a mates house in kennington three story same type council terrace 1850s,from the front door you had to leave your shoes, and then onwards was the most beautifully and exquisite chinese and oriental decor together with rugs carpets chinese and persian, house then i believe over a million god knows what it is worth now, he was paying nominal rent,

One of the old Blue flu jobs I was on or it might have been a Glen boat there was a speaking tube from the bridge to the engine room. You certainly got water in your ear with that, It was part of a Junior/Cadets engineers welcome onboard package.

I was bridge boy on the Stirling Castle, and just to give you something to do every half hour, was to go and check the smoke box, and thats what it was, a large box in the corner of the bridge, with tubes for various parts of the ship, and labelled, and obviously report if you saw smoke coming from the tube and what area, The SC was built pre war 2 i think, kt

Sailed with a few on Blue flu & ED's smoke detection system. Samples drawn from the various sample points from the holds . Think they operated by passing the sample between a beam of light? and if smoke was detected it set the fire alarm on the bridge first.
