It’s like everything else “You Play you Pay” just the price that variesthe more you indulge.
I consider my price to be worth it as I am having a great life.

#16 As regards drugs , what I observed 12 months ago when receiving surgery for a broken hip I was advised by the surgeon that he would prefer it if I would agree to not being put to sleep for the op. His reasons he was worried in case he couldn’t resuscitate me if necessary due to my age , I agreed to receiving a mixture of drugs to freeze the rest of my body from the waist down and the operation went ahead. Let me say I was hallucinating for a good week afterwards and didn’t know if I was standing on my head or tail. If this is what the people who take drugs as a pastime get, then they can keep it. Not for me Hosea I would prefer to get slightly intoxicated with alcohol and know what I was doing. JS……

Some years ago there was a guy running up and down the train carriage saying is there a catholic priest on board.
A man said son I am the local vicar can I be of assistance.
Yes said the mani if you have a bottle opener in your pocket

Coming off the 2000 - 2400 watch my arrival in the bar seemed to be the sign for everyone else to turn in. On a UMS ship there wasn't even an engineer to keep me company.

Oh dear , perhaps your after shave? lol. Sadly once D&A policy came in it killed social life on ships.
Under todays conditions no way would I go back to sea. I had some great years at sea but the last 20 was all about banking what you earned and looking forward to your leave.
Having said that I earned and saved enough to have a comfortable life in my retirement, when I leave this world my wife and family can still have a comfortable life.

After shave, knew a guy who when desperate for a drink would resort to that.
A senior officer on UCL was known to let a bottle of Brasso settle to remove the alcohol in it.
    Desperate times means desperate means.

Nearly as bad as making so called whisky from potato peelings. Plus of course yeast. JS

I had an uncle in Ireland that made his own poitin, or poteen, in fact two uncles making it. We had to take empty whiskey bottles over and fill them up for my dad. We never got pulled by customs, but once, I was searched at Liverpool, and the officer said after smelling the bottle with the top still on, "Dat's a loverly drup of stuff ya have daire sur, hope ya don't drink it all, it'll give ya a bliddy headache", then he winked and off I went.
I often visited their farms, and was always sent away with a sore head.

Saccharomyces cerevisiae (Yeast) sounds more like sexually transmitted disease
I have sailed with some good lads over the years and a lot of them did have a bit of a drink problem. Also it seemed to be the higher the rank the more they drank.
