Re: I have come to the conclusion.
Must be scam season again.
One yesterday supposedly from the bank, but a very god copy I must say.
Today one from my IPS, not the first, send it on to them to sort out.
As to tradies, I had our heating system replaced in the roof space last year, local but a good guy who does not charge over the top, says he has to live in the area so has to be realistic.
Took the old heating system out Thursday, came back Saturday to fit the new one.
In between I went up in the roof space to see how it was.
When he came back I told him he was not a genuine tradie and would not fit in.
He laughed what I told him why.
After taking the old one out he had cleaned the area completely, it stood on special boards and he had swept it all clean including removal of cobwebs.
Happy daze John in Oz.

hi cappy
#24 you should have told her to tell lee not to cash the cheque for a grand that you paid him last week but to tell him to come round and you will pay in cash, she would be screaming.

Re: I have come to the conclusion.
Had new fences put in, over 90 meters in total and all over 20 years old.
in very bad condition but the fencer suggested I try to claim it on my house insurance.
He wrote a letter for me to send to the insurance company along with photos I had taken.
Must have been the right wording as they paid up.
All it cost me was the up front fee of $750, not bad on a job that cost over $6,000.
Here in Oz all cost have to be shared between the house owners, total cost of job over $12,000

Re: I have come to the conclusion.
Victoria all states have a fencing act.
All adjoining owners ae required to pay half the cost.
Tell him if he does not pay up you will call in the fencing act people.

Re: I have come to the conclusion.
#29 In England, cannot speak for S,W, & NI, it is in your house deeds what boundaries you are responsible for, normally it's two out of the four if detached and two out of three if attached/semi detached, seems to work well in 99.9999% of cases, but has caused some expensive litigation in a minority, sometimes over and above the value of the property.

Re: I have come to the conclusion.
Perhaps they cannot afford to pay if they have just paid out for the rear fence? Did you actually discuss the other fence was going to be replaced as well with your neighbour or take it for granted they would be happy to go along as before? maybe a suggestion that they pay it off in monthly instalments.

Re: I have come to the conclusion.
20 year old fence and you got the insurance company to cough up $ 12,000. Did they not send out a surveyor ? No wonder insurance premiums are going up, no such thing as a free lunch. And yes I likely would chance my arm as well

Re: I have come to the conclusion.
i would if spending any money which would cause my neighbour to have to pay .....speak to him about the cost as a warning at least of the fact he would be involved financially......surely that is good neighbour land which we all must try to keep....
