Nautical mile is one minute of Latitude and is usually referred to as 6080 ft.. However the true average is 6075.8 feet
3 nautical miles is equal to 1 league, ( remember half a league half a league onwards)
    20 leagues or 60 geographical miles = 1 degree.
The earths circumference is 24,855.5 nautical miles.
The nautical mile is 795.8 feet longer than the common mile.

I am flummoxed, phoned a friend who is occupied with bar Quizzes, when he returns the call will respond somehow. (just joking) RM,

Roger a few years ago got involved in a bar quiz here in Oz. 0ne of the questions was , what is the River called that runs through Brisbane. I had no idea and must have been the only stupid Englishman there that didn’t know, it is simply called the Brisbane River. If they can’t think of some fancy word it’s back to basics here you call it what you see. JS

Hello JS i sometimes envy the Australian culture, my first impression was in the late 50s arriving on the Port Victor First deep sea trip as Peggie Being 15 close to 16, and then visiting a bar oval in shape, women and children in a separate room and the seaman and dockers having their glasses filled by the barman with a device on an extension hose as the bar closed at 1800, i was probably drinking Cola keeping it legal. On following voyages I was really enamoured by the time i spent in Tasmania Especially "Beauty point" plus xmas and new year in "Hobart" and "Bernie" when things get back to some form of normality I hope to revisit the island with the Wife and sample the Culture again. Memories are Seasonal. All the best Roger.
