    Default Battered

As we know there is a push to replace conventional power, coal, with the new renewables of wind and solar.

Both are fine as a part of the system but they do require a solid back up, the sun is not always correct and the wind some times does not blow.

Here in Victoria we ae on to a winner we are told by our less than illustrious premier.

A storage battery of some 300,000 megawatts, at a cost of some millions.

It will power some 300,000 houses for all of 90 minutes.
How we will get through the remainder of the day has not been explained.
    Happy daze John in Oz.

No wind, no coal, how do you charge the batteries when its energy is depleted?

My son is involved in a project where they are building power stations running gas engines driving alternators to cover peak demands. They have also built a huge facility near Hull, it has 42 x 40 foot containers containing 224 lithium ion batteries each which will be charged at off peak hours and discharged to grid to cover peaks in demand.

in the summer i bought a little ...what looks like a old time village pump...it is solar run .....it pumps water up and it comes down like a waterfall the sound is hypnotising it cost about 40 quid ....it is so good for the soul to sit on sunny days and listen to ......education and the learning of these things is a bit beyond my ken ....but thanks to those who are beavering away...for the benefit of humanity in general on these projects....one downside the sound of the running water can have one detrimental effect....but i am quite happy to put up with that.....cappy

Not the Elon Musk one that is in Adelaide and gives the city power for 2 hours 8 minutes.
Lat summer we had diesel generators attempting to make up for the coal powered one that the gov closed.
Lots of dark nights in the heat.

Not so sure about Cappy and his water fall.
My memory of UK in summer is all the warm rain we got, no need for a waterfall in back garden.

Advert for a house near the river, 'River at the bottom of the garden in summer, garden at bottom of river in winter'.
