Vic, you will have to stop posting sensible posts, as some clown will always post 'lol' thinking they know better on how to juggle. A job is always easy until you have to do it.

Re: Another U turn.
To enact a U turn you must first determine a direction in which to travel.
Once have concluded that is the correct way then one may progress along that line.
However at some point it may be the need to return to the point of beginning, to accomplish this his one must do a U turn.
This will bring you to the point of the start of the journey.
Once at that point one must then consider is there another route that can be taken.
If not then one must continue again on the original route, however for a politician there is an allowance for this process.
It is known as lunacy or blind panic depending on which side you support.

#4... Christmas is a Christian celebration anyway, which today in the UK, may or may not be a minority group,
the most Christian act I saw at sea was in 1988 where Haven Shipping of Glasgow paid all their seafarers at sea on that day 3 days wages. Was well appreciated. JS

hi john
same in sailing, if your keel touches bottom, turn 180 degrees and return to open waters.

Re: Another U turn.
Thomas that sounds like doing a U turn to pick up a person overboard. Named after a certain person. Name is on tip of tongue but wont come out , the name not the tongue. Never tried so cannot say with surety whether works in practice as it does in theory. As will depend on other circumstances such as weather , sea conditions, set and leeway, I have always believed in most cases one makes a decision and sticks with it through hell and high water. usually one making decisions gets no kudos whether right or wrong. Cheers JS
PS Just remembered the Williamson Turn. JS

hello and good morning john sabourn
yes a 180 reciprocal is a must with caution i may add.
once your keel touches as whom knows what lays to the port or starboard as one cannot proceed ahead.
but as always you are correct bigger ships are then doomed given bad weather that is, but for little yachts its easy to get the boat heeled to turn her around given the weather being on your side.
as for u-turns and decisions, well hindsight is always the best way to make a good decision.and i make all my best ones that way.

Re: Another U turn.
I was always under the opinion that if someone went over the side the ship had to go back for some two hours.
Fine, but what if you discover at 0600 hours that someone may have gone over at midnight?
Tow hours we were told was the maximum time any one in the ocean could be expected to last.
But that also would depend on the waters, lot of big Sharks out there!
