Just wondered did anyone at sea in the 50s or early sixties see watch caps worn ....trilbys going ashore ....yes... But no wooly watch caps and yet the statue was commisioned rightfully so .....but which beatle brain passed the wooly watch cap.....plus the sea boots looked more like wellies ......probably toy blairs deputy.......prescot had his name on the statue so did commie slater .......... But no seaman checked it out .....r683532

That program *look at life* has several interesting videos on you tube, there is one on the St Laurence seaway which is interesting from 1960, i won't post the link, don't want to be accused of too much pasting, but for anyone sailing there at that time could be worth a look

sailed with a couple of engineers who wore steaming revvy in 70s, usually made from mutton cloth.

On deck usually made from old jeans or duck canvas, some even had a best one for going ashore

I used to make mine from a pair of old jeans, unless the bosun turned his back when the roll of duck canvas was left unattended, used a dinner plate for the first circle, then a smaller plate for the rim, etc etc, they would last all trip, usually covered in paint by then,
