Re: Yellow Jack.
Its a good job my ID card was never checked against my discharge book. My ID card had become very tatty, and falling apart, so i was sent to the photographer , by prescott st , while waiting for another ship, the photographer managed to mix my number up, so my ID card read R686 instead of r689, i travelled the world for the next 4 years, and it was never picked up. I dread to think what would have happened if it had been spotted by the Yanks, i would probably still be there protesting my innocence, kt

Re: Yellow Jack.
Terry just got my red ID book out, No fingerprints , the number on front of book bears no reference to your Dis. Number however dis no. is written down inside if the owner has one. Mine issued in 1978 and valid for 5 years. NHI number also inside . Only partial blank page is inside cover marked for use of HM government . The number on front of book is a 6 letters followed by a B. maybe stands for basket. Its the only red book I ever had and was never used in anger. Cheers JS

Re: Yellow Jack.
My red i.d book was never used as I always had a passport.
Dutch immigration at school always wanted to see your discharge book.
There is a new seafarers document that came into force some years back.
As recently as 2008 when I was joining in Holland I was always supplied with a joining letter from the office. All foreign crew joining had to have, in addition to the correct visa also had to have a letter of appointment.

Re: Yellow Jack.
Funny thing that John, I found a passport photo taken about 1968 or so.
I have not changed one bit since then but for some reason the cameras of today tend to see things in a different way to then.
Happy daze John in Oz.

Erratta for #43. I had another little Red Book issued to me personally by the Peoples Republic of China in 1977, Called the thoughts Of Mao. Good reading if you are a member of a mental Institution. JS
