#17 Again the 2 Q flags. Maybe because the tramps I was on didnt have 2 sets of flags. Which would have meant putting up the Q flag and below it the first substitute. ( not prostitute Cappy ) Cheers JS

Des you are right there mate.
Not sure now who was responsible for all the crap that went on.
It appears the dock side people just wanted tot passengers off as soon as possible and out of their sight.

But have been on a cruise ship when we were not allowed due to an outbreak of Noro Virus on board.
That was in Singapore, but they have got it sorted.

John, some of the crews on ships now are from so many different countries I am sure they have problem communicating with each other, getting them to fly the correct flags may well be beyond them.
    Happy daze John in Oz.

    Hi Ted.
Don't you dare talk about Cappy in that way, he has been the model of due diligence since his return.

Usually flown from the triatic stay or sometimes a yardarm signifying 'My vessel is not under command' usually hoisted when the engineers are working on the main propulsion unit when at sea. Normally they were stored on the monkey island to stop them disappearing and you need them pretty quickly if you lost main power in the English Channel or Singapore Straits etc

Alas it didn't give you automatic right to enter into port, it indicated that you had declared your vessel was free of disease and requested entry into port, it was up to the Port Authorities whether or not they took your word or sent their own health officials out to verify your declaration, a lot depended upon your previous port of call and its health status..
