Victoria, having been employed in the medical service i am sure you are aware of the 'Brolley' of which we speak.
As is so often the case the disease is worse than the cure.
But there was many a ships Doc who was good at darts, got plenty of practice in his surgery on many a ship.

But how did we get from TV licence to Sherbet Dabs and other such wonderous sufferings?

Yes we do wander at times. LOL

Yo Ho Ho and a bottle of Pussers? Perhaps the Black Red and Yellow was the result.

    Hi Victoria,
Doctor Ross was known as the Seamen's Friend in Liverpool
    He owned the SEAMENS DISPENSARY.
Most seafarers called in there for a check up and blood test before going home on leave. A carton of duty Free cigarettes would do it while you wait.

Now Victoria am sure you dad will explain.
The difference between a Soldier and a Merchant seaman when they had to go for a 'shot' to dispell the present left to them by a 'lady'

The Seaman would be told just drop your jocks and I will give you a jab.
The Soldier would be told drop your jocks and stand to attention while I administer this.

On the occasion when your test proved positive,
The usual option was to walk across the road to the Pool and ship out again.

You could of course go to the Dreadnought Seaman Hospital In Greenwich.
Just inside the door a collection of photos of what various forms of VD could do to your old fella.
Not nice at all. wonder who volunteered to be photographed?
