Re: French stuff
Have driven in France many times with my British plates and have had no real trouble, Paris and its circular road are a challenge even for French drivers, but having lived and driven in London, Paris is no more challenging. French drivers get nervous when you draw up at the traffic lights alongside them and their steering wheel is next to yours instead of being a passenger away, kinda throws em for a minute, but always trying to show that their Citroen CV is faster than your Saab turbo, never happened!
I have always found that please and thankyou in the language of the country you are in works wonders, although saying it with an Inspector Cleiseu French accent also helps, and like Rodney's experience they love to gesticulate and point which also helps, having a beautiful good looking trim wife and beautiful twin daughters also got their attention and patience. Had a month once in Nice on the seafront apartment where everything was expensive , walk two streets back to small bakery and everything 80% cheaper and fresher same with the cheese and veg shops. Any problems just pretend you're Spanish and say Buenos Dias and muchas gracias

Re: French stuff
Not long after first leaving home, a group that I was with were thinking of eating and where best to go, we were near China Town, Central London and a mate asked another friend whom was Chinese about the best place to eat in that area. His reply was it should be the same all over, here watch where the Chinese go to eat, if in Paris and you want to eat French etc, etc, etc. Hence, adopted the policy years ago, watch others. Avoid the tourists queues lest that is what you intended.
Last time in Paris actually included a Bastille Day, out with the crowds around the Eiffel Tower etc, felt so welcome by all.
Never had a problem in many countries, then again have never acted abroad like a lager lout, always learn as Ivan mentioned, the basics of the language and try not to be arrogant as many do.

Re: French stuff
Have been to as they say Gay Paree, and i have always loved the place, was of course in the Legion many years back, joined at the old Fort de Vincennes with my late Brother, what an experience.
Anyway back to Paris , yes the place of my dreams , i found the People lovely and very helpful while on Holidays . Some great places to see and visit all around Paris and the Food ,well Yummy Yummy!
Love the Metro Trains as well, and compared to the time i first went there, it really has changed a lot, with better Trains and those Driverless ones, are terrific! The Eiffel Tower a masterpiece of Steel structure, and the Arch de Triumph another great Structure , but as said to drive around there is an experience one must have ! Never seen Cars go so crazy as around hat Arch, but seems they have it all under control ,its a sheer delight to watch ! LOL
Yes a great place that i wish i could return to in the near future but with all the Covid, who knows when one will ever be able to do a lovely trip again!
Viva la France! And that lovely Song! "I love Paris" https://www.bing.com/videos/search?q...%26FORM%3DVDRE

Re: French stuff
Hi Ivan.
Correct me if I am wrong, but I always thought it was an Algerian port where they shelled the French Fleet.

Den is he on something?
I have only over met one 'nice' Frenchman and i know from experience they do not like the POms.
Thankfully we do not have many here in Melbourne, if I recall at one time the French though that their language should be an international one.
Never happened, maybe that is why they do not like the English, that language took over.

Maybe it's because I find they don't dislike the Scots that I agree with what you say Doc.
