Genevieve
If you like a good old fashioned English comedy "Genevieve" is a classic, made in 1953, so lots of nostalgia showing England as
we like to remember it to be. The storyline is about two friends taking part in the London to Brighton Veteran car run, to them it's
a No "Holds Barred race", John Gregson, Dinah Sheridan, Kenneth More and Kay Kendall, Channel 81 15:45 Saturday. A little bit of light heartedness will do you good during these gloomy times cheers.

Re: Genevieve
Like so many films of that era they never lose their appeal.
Not like some of the stuff of today, computer generated crap a lot of it.

One of a few that I have to watch over and over again,
others being: The 39 steps, the lady vanishes, a night
to remember and Tiger Bay amongst many more.

Re: Genevieve
The Ladykillers. A very English film dealing with robbery and murder and classed as a comedy! A US repeat was made recently but you just can't replicate genius.

Re: Genevieve
Not forgetting the classic: The Cruel Sea is a 1953 British war film starring Jack Hawkins, Donald Sinden, Denholm Elliott, Stanley Baker, Liam Redmond, Virginia McKenna and Moira Lister. The film, which was made by Ealing Studios seven years after the end of the Second World War, was directed by Charles Frend and produced by Leslie Norman. It is based on the best selling 1951 novel of the same name by former naval officer Nicholas Monsarrat, though the screenplay by Eric Ambler omits some of the novel's grimmest moments.

Re: Genevieve
There were so many good movies in those days, far better than some of the stuff we now get.
One that comes to mind stared Alec Guinness, about a ships captain who had two wives in different ports.
Not uncommon in those days I would suggest!
Lavendar Hill mob, was another one that was good back then.
Also one that comes to mind, 'The Ship that Died of Shame'. about early 60's
