The scenic route
Here in Oz we are told that mail deliveries will go from five days per week to just three.
Brought about by a lack of mail now, so much of what we used to receive now comes via e-mails.
Greetings cards are also on the way out, so many now sending 'e' cards.
Easter and Christmas along with birthdays and special anniversaries is the time her indoors sends card to those here and overseas.
Knowing how slow the mail can be these days the overseas Easter cards were sent on March 10th, just to be sure.
Today we received an e-mail from friends in Ireland, their Easter card arrived today.
But they are now so confused, is it for this year or next?
It gives snail mail a new meaning.

Re: The scenic route
My wife and i sell various vintage items on ETSY and send stuff all over the world. We have 7 orders from Australia waiting to be posted and some have been waiting now for over 3 months. Why? Because the Australian government or post office has told the Hungarian post office not to accept parcels to Australia, probably because there is such a large backlog of items waiting to be sorted and delivered. As there are less flights and fewer workers apparently. Found out 3 days ago that this also applies to Germany sp probably most other EU countries. Not generally known i don't think.

Re: The scenic route
Just received a note from a friend who works in a department store.
During this lock down they are sending out items via the post.
This is what happened to one item.
Item sent from Melbourne store to local suburb.
From there it went to South Australia then back to Sydney.
From there on to Melbourne, then back again to Sydney before being sent to the correct address in Melbourne.
Then Australia post complain they cannot cope with all the additional parcels being sent during the lock down.

Re: The scenic route
We got our power bill yesterday, in it the company said that we could get cheaper power by doing this. Give them our internet address and we will bill you through it to save posting and paper, you can also pay your bills through it .They can't go any lower than what we are paying now, which was sorted for us two years ago, by a young bloke who said he had done the same for his parents, don't know if he still works for them. What if you don't have internet like many here. If the post office is to slow for them, why don't they employ someone to go around and collect like they used to, they closed the office in Cooma two years ago where everyone used to call in and pay their bills, easy enough to reopen it.

Re: The scenic route
Des, mate the only one who saves with that method is the company, no postage costs but you as the end user if you choose to print off a copy have to pay for paper and ink.
There is no such thing as a better price.
My brother, a sparkie, did a bit of research into all prices.
The ones that off 50% off and such.
he spent about half the day comparing them all and in the end found the difference between any amounted to nothing more than a few cents.
