It is never easy at these times but I am pleased the staff showed some compassion and and used their initiative in your case, as I believe the hurt would be magnified if you had been excluded.

My heartfelt condolences to you Louis.
I lost the love of my life in April. I well understand the pain you must be going through and the dramatic change to your everyday living. Beyond the loss of someone you love, it's the learning that must begin in everyday living. Shopping, laundry, house cleaning, etc..
After adding the above to my work load of the heavy stuff, vacuuming , washing the floors, yard work etc., Scratch yard work as I live in an apartment now, it still left me empty time to brood. As I got better and faster at the "women's work" my brooding time became longer still.
My answer was to involve myself deeper in a hobby. In my case it is genealogy. I also have painting, and I'm a book worm. Currently genealogy is my number one occupational therapy to loneliness. Followed by reading. Painting has become a fall back position to when I bump into Adam and Eve as great-great-grandparents.
For me evenings are the worst. I've had dinner for one and bourbon for two. My solution for help become more reading. I went to the used book shop nearby and I purchased somewhere between 50-75 (Three boxes full anyway) of mixed books that interest me; spies, detectives, historical fiction, war books, and factual books that sound interesting.
Why did I buy a load. Because I'm housebound, avoiding covid19 virus as best I can. The better the book, the more involved I am and the least time to remember my lost good times.
Those are my solution to ease me through life. Perhaps others have other solutions that may help, if not you Louis me, I'll consider everything going.
