Probably very sad, but saying at the same time, okay chief lets see how far we can get her up the beach !!
Alas in reality once the ship is handed over to the scrap yard afloat the master and crew disembark, a scrapyard beachmaster then takes command, (they also have their own engineers) as the beachmaster knows exactly how far they want the vessel up the beach and how to place it there. They don't want some master misjudging it and damaging the vessel or others on the beach, as they would not want the bowthrusters damaged on the beaching vessel as these are all saleable items, or the beaching vessel hitting the engine room of a beached vessel and damaging pumps, auxiliaries, gennies etc which are all saleable items, looks chaotic at times, but its well choreographed.
Oh ! what a shame and when one thinks of all the work put in to Build them!
Enough to make me Cry!
Cheers
Cheer up Doc, just think of it as something akin to organ transplants, a lot of machinery will find its way into new recipients replacing worn out parts and the steel work will be resmelted and may find its way into new building yards to start a new life. When you think of it those scrap ships stand a better chance than we do of being reincarnated!
Are Razor blades made from scrapped ships?” Around 1969–70 there was a naval surplus auction in which a WWII submarine was sold for scrap at the Key West Naval base. The successful bidder was rumoured to be the Gillette Razor company.
Just wondering.

That was always. A saying among seafarers Keith . Funnily enough I remember. a young fiver or sixer who served his time. In a razor blade factory. But still managed to get his marine grading. For going to sea. JS..
There was also a video taken from the bridge on the ship.
Only English word I heard was 'starboard' the rest was something else.
To meet with many of the new emssions regulations some of the new ships will be designed to run on gas.
There are also a couple that are part diesel part gas.
I also sailed with a 3rd. Engineer who served his time as a blacksmith , this was a suitable trade in a shipyard , But the rumour got around he served his time in an equinine environment. JS
