    He probably went to the ladies , wasn’t a real sailor in any case.May have been a lady one I kid myself. Although not ready to risk it. JS

    As the original post showed two young females in distress of quite appropriate proportions , and going on previous experiences that the most useful thing on a ship for close quarter lifesaving is the lifebuoy with line attached , this would be the best thing to save them. Although even if they could not . get it over their head just to hang onto. Rather than just a heaving line unless of course the idea was to use as a tow rope. I remember years ago reading the report of the Ambassador which sank after leaving Halifax with a grain cargo. Think the master or the mate died by tying a running bowline around themself and died as a result of being crushed when dragged through the water by their rescuers. JWS
