It's not just royals who get personal protection provided by the government, even individuals who many think should be in jail still get government paid personal protection.
As regards Harry and Megan, the way they/he announced his decision to step back to before informing the queen was not only insensitive but rude. No one seems to know who owns the property they are staying in on Vancouver island, wonder if they are paying rent?

Re: By royal appointment
Well, breaking news is the couple will drop their royal titles, and no longer use public funds, so a bit of respect for that, lets see how that will work out, kt

Re: By royal appointment
Apparently, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are expected to continue to receive
£2.3million-a-year from the Duchy of Cornwall via Prince Charles.
The couple will now be free to do any commercial deals they like
and appear to be continuing their 'Sussex Royal' brand, even
though they are no long Royal Highnesses.
If Meghan were to go back to acting she could be in for a princely
sum of money, as she made £3million from appearing on American
TV show Suits.
The future does not look to grim, best of luck to both if that is what
they want.

One of the things that convinced me that Canada would be a good country to bring my wife and children to was the Canadian attitude of ‘Hail fellow well met’ with no regard to who and what you might be. The past forty-eight years have proven me right and I’ve met many immigrants of different origins who I’ve treated the same way.
It seems that the Sussex’s (there are no titles in Canada) wish to settle in Vancouver Island having visited a luxury estate owned by a secretive millionaire, good for them. Vancouver Island has a mild year-round climate, far better that than the east coast of this vast country but no matter what, I trust they will receive and respond as I did to “Hail fellow well met”
In around 1776 or so General Wolfe defeated the French at the battle of Abraham heights.
He then claimed all of what is now Canada for the English monarch, which now sees Her Majesty as the owner of Canada.
Though she cannot sell it she can have influence on what occurs there, so this happy couple will have no worries mate about getting in.
Happy daze John in Oz.

Re: By royal appointment
At a private event for Sentebale on Sunday night in London, Harry spoke about leaving royal duties behind in a bid for a "more peaceful life" for his family.
Best of luck Harry and Megan, hope all works out for you.

Mate, her Maj has so much money but is unable to spend it.
All the crown land is owned in some manner by the crown and they get rents from it.

Re: By royal appointment
Thank goodness our presidents don't get the same deal...They just make millions from book deals, and payment from people and organizations for "advise", a nice big fat pension and the best of medical coverage for the rest of their lives, etc.$$$$ etc..
