Today: Some forecasters say it's the worst winter in more than 50 years

I will let you know if I see my pine cones shivering
When one door closes another one shuts, it must be the wind

Really just wondered how much anti-freeze I should buy.

It is not uncommon for them to be wrong - frequently.

Go back through the history of England and a pattern of bad, very bad and extreme winters will be found.
In 1948 cola froze in the trucks so the power level were down, in 1963 the country came to a standstill brought about by one of the worst on record.

It would appear that about very 15 or 16 there is a bad one.
Then about every 30 a very bad one followed by an extreme about every 40 or so.

It may not always be snow but just very harsh weather with very strong winds from the North.

In the one of 63 the sea froze in Margate and a few other places, it lasted from Boxing day until into March.
But England is not the only one in the North.
St. Petersburg in Russia the river Niva regularly freezes, at some points it is up to 400 meters wide, that is one heck of an ice cube.
    Happy daze John in Oz.

BUT, do the pines help me decide on doubling my anti freeze or not.

    No PROBLEM,
    QUE SERA!, SERA.

We had 800 miles of ice in the St Laurence , Montreal to the sea, with Ice breakers , 1956.
Hudson River, New York, 1961 , had Ice Breakers to get us out.

Thames frozen solid many times in history.
Last year in the Weddell Sea at the end of Summer, not winter, Ice was 15 feet thick,
BAS ship James Clark Ross had to abandon the crossing.

Round up the all the Climate extinction louts and dump them on the Antarctic in their underpants , and leave them there.

In the winter of 1970 we were discharging fuel oil in New York, it was so cold we not only had to keep all the steam deck gear idling as would be done under reasonable winter conditions, we had to run them flat out to stop em freezing.
It was further exacerbated when someone on deck decided to shut down all the heating coils resulting in every single return line freezing up and bursting.
It took us (all engineers) the full return trip to Curacao to remove them to engine room, repair the splits and refit. What a night mare.
