    Possibly of interest:

The tale of two towns in South Yorkshire that shows why our bank branches MUST be saved.

There are no more bank branches in Wath upon Dearne
In contrast, nearby Rotherham has kept nearly all its bank branches.

They must have richer people living there, or Cappy has moved.

It is occurring globally as the younger generation, and some of our era, embrace the new systems such as Tap and Go.

The use of real cash as we know it will be gone within 20 years as more move to electronic banking.

We have lost some banks here in Oz and many of the ATMs are being removed in regions where the demand is in decline.
But many branches now have ATMs that will accept deposits of cash and cheques.

The PO now have machines where you may pay your accounts without going to the counter.

But I have not paid an account any other way than by direct debit or on the net for over 25 years now.

Only go to the local bank to have a chat with one of the tellers, lady from Jo'burg.

The ANZ bank at the Robina shopping centre has what they call a 'Smart ATM'. Although they still have teller's, when I went to pay in a cheque was accosted bt an employee standing at the entrance and shown to the 'Smart ATM' and assisted i paying the cheque in and receiving a receipt.

Having in my travels seen some of the now so called 'post offices', in small local areas where their understanding if English is so poor, there is no way I would even consider posting a letter there let alone do banking.

Banks are for banking, post offices are for other business, such as posting letters.

With fewer and fewer banks, unless you can suggest a better way, the PO is still the best option.

Trouble is Colin it gives the bank an excuse to sack the worker. it's why we have so much unemployment.

Village residents will be able to request free-to-use ATMs under new scheme to stop their local area becoming a 'cash desert'
It follows evidence cash machines are disappearing at a rate of 600 a month
Link, which runs cash machine network, plans to let communities bid for ATMs

Residents will be invited to contact MPs to formally bid for one on their behalf

Residents will be invited to contact their council or MP, who would formally bid for a new cash machine on their behalf.
