As with all such entities as the Masons, there will always be stories, tales and so much misinformation given out.
Is it through ignorance, jealousy or just plain stupidity, something I have never been able to understand.
But for some reason only known to them there ae those out there who consider those who do good without personal gain or acknowledgement must be up to something odd.

Believe me the only odd ones are the ones who think that way.

Becoming a Freemason is like going on a journey: from joining as an Entered Apprentice, it typically takes one or two years to become a Master Mason, with each of the three stages marked by a special ceremony.

#67... A bit more sense shown there Keith, and if not given in the article, when you become a master mason , you can then visit other Lodges without a chaperon. After becoming a master mason also the lodge can at its discretion put you through all the officers chairs and positions before becoming master of the lodge. There are basically apart from the final chair, a further 10 positions. It took me 10 years ( about the same for a masters cert. ) which today is about average , years ago when the Lodges had larger numbers of members could take 3 Times as long. Read the literature put out by grand lodge and you will get the truth, and not by these people who were born cynical and will probably die cynical . Cheers JS.

When I was bell boy in the pursers bureau one of my jobs was to post notices on the notice boards around the ship one notice was There will be a meeting of Masonic Bretheren in the first class restaurant ---day time etc.Captain, chf purser & chf steward were three I knew would be in attendance.

Question for JWS,As you are aware many stories about masonry do the rounds,any truth in this one.There was only ever one woman mason,she was a cleaner and was cleaning in the room where there was a meeting going on,they didn't know she was there so as she had heard their secrets they had to make her a member.

Elizabeth Aldworth

One account of a woman being admitted to Freemasonry in the 18th century is the case of Elizabeth Aldworth (born St Leger), who is reported to have surreptitiously viewed the proceedings of a Lodge meeting held at Doneraile House, the private house of her father, first Viscount Doneraile, a resident of Doneraile, County Cork, Ireland. Upon discovering the breach of their secrecy, the Lodge resolved to admit and obligate her, and thereafter she proudly appeared in public in Masonic clothing. Speculative attempts to link the lodge of her initiation with a documented lodge of the Grand Lodge of Ireland have proved futile, but there is no reason that her father should not have instituted a lodge in his home, and the authenticity of her initiation is generally accepted.

There were a couple of women in America around the same time who did similar and hid during a meeting apparently.
