Re: Ukraine
Marian # 465 re Putin on BBC R4
Thanks for that.
Well Marian. After failing to retrieve my long ago forgotten hardly used BBC ID from the deepest bowels of my laptop,I re-registered and have now read some of those interviews.Very enlightening and entertaining.
You're now going to get someone here claiming it's the BBC,it's all fake news;Putin is 100% compos mentis ; like all ex KGB men he is always thinking the best of others;is currently giving succour and aid to the poor Ukrainians who are being massacred by their own Ukrainian military;Russia is being pilloried by the west and NATO because of their jealousy of her success in creating a content stable ,neutral,peace-loving nation, and who he wishes his people could all one day travel to see the squalor and decadence of Western nations, especially places like Salisbury where the sinister dreaded WPF-the Wiltshire Police Force- poison people with Novichok and then blame innocent Russian tourists who only came to see a beautiful cathedral......
Are there really two sides to every story?......
I could post a Smiley to finish my post-but it's not really a smiling matter,is it?
Cheers!
Graham

Re: Ukraine
The Ukrainian AZOV regiment was founded in 2014 and yes it had far right tendencies. At its founding its prime aim was to protect and defend the City of Mariupol.
By 2016 the unit had been absorbed into the Ukrainian Military and as such its funding is provided by their MOD.
In its early years it was associated with Neo Nazi, but since its incorporation into the Military thse tendencies have been rejected, but many since still hark back to its early years.
Maybe Putin dislikes them as it has given them a bloody nose.
One of the earlier posting showed a link to the Global Times, which is linked to one of the World's biggest Democracies - I think not China, a bastion of truth.

Re: Ukraine
#467 , No smiling matter , that's for sure , a sad sad affair especially for the innocents caught up in the fighting. And yes , there most certainly is two sides to this and most
other stories but as the old addage goes , there's none so blind that will not see.

Re: Ukraine
Re: post #463 And Global times:
The Global Times (simplified Chinese: 环球时报; traditional Chinese: 環球時報; pinyin: Huánqiú Shíbào) is a daily tabloid newspaper under the auspices of the Chinese Communist Party's flagship newspaper, the People's Daily, commenting on international issues from a nationalistic perspective.[1][2][3][4] The publication has been labelled as "China's Fox News" by some scholars and writers for its propagandistic slant and the monetization of nationalism.[5][6]
Established as a publication in 1993, its English version was launched in 2009. The editor-in-chief of Global Times was Hu Xijin until December 2021, who has been described as an early adopter of the "wolf warrior" communication strategy of loudly denouncing perceived criticism of the Chinese government and its policies.[7] The newspaper has been the source of various incidents, including fabrications, conspiracy theories, and disinformation.[note 1] It is part of a broader set of Chinese state media outlets that constitute the Chinese government's propaganda apparatus...
There's much more, but i believe the opening two paragraphs says it all.
I don't think much of Fox Nes either.

Hi Keith.
I don't know if they have shown the floods in NSW on your TV, Towns being swept by 15meters of water, but at the time our PM was pledging $70 million in arms to the Ukraine, over 1,500 people lost their homes here and 15 their lives, our Show pony world leader, even to this day has given OUR people nothing. i

Hi Marion.
Maybe you are right about Putin after all he is Russian and you can't trust them. Why is it then that Saudi Arabia is on the list of the Wests best friends, and is one of the biggest buyers of American and British arms, in the brutal war against Yemen, a backward tribal nation, with hundreds of children being starved to death. I'm against all wars and brutality but you can't pick and choose one and ignore the other, and in the you I mean the world .

Re: Ukraine
Russia is doing with their media just what the west does with theirs.
It shows the people what it thinks is best for them to know and not always the truth.
Just enough to make the people think the gov has got it right.
See the PM is going half with NSW on flood relief, but why did so many build on what is flood plains?
Must be bad there, I hear insurance in Lismore can be as much as $28,000 a year because of the risk of floods, is that true?

Gentlemen ( and Lady ) , think I will desist in any more postings on this thread. Enough strife in the world already. Lets just say we agree to disagree on the possible various
causes of war in Ukraine. Suffice to say that once again the world leaders and the elite make the conflict but the ordinary Joe Soaps are the ones who suffer.

Re: Ukrainela
The Yemen was the birthplace and still is of religious fanaticism and terrorism. This goes back many years long before religious terrorism was published in the media. My information came by word of mouth from a friend who was stationed there as a representative of a national airlines . Even in the 50s he was not allowed outside his quarters without an armed guard. It finished up with him hopping unannounced on one of his own aircraft and arriving back in London unannounced and refusing any further residence there. The Yemen that real people know about is not what the press preaches . That same friend died a few years ago but started his career with the forerunner to BA, was at Dunkirk and came off the beaches as a Private , was demobbed out of the army in 1946 as a bird Colonel , finished his working life as head accountant for Singapore airlines and later Malaysian airlines , a man of exemplary character so have no trouble in doubting his word , especially when put up against some of the tripe one sees in the media. Cheers JS

Re: Ukraine
Hi John
Maybe that was why ships anchored when fuelling in Aden no one went ashore. I was on a tanker that ran between the Gulf and the new refinery in Aden for six months, was not allowed out of the area guarded by British troops, they had a swimming pool and club there.
