Re: Ukraine
The News??? last night said that the people fleeing from Mariupol where going to Russia, I know that there are many Russians living in the Ukraine, so it may have been the truth.

Re: Ukraine
#192. Des I said in one post of my experience on a Russian vessel here in Australia. And how she carried 35 of a crew whereas normally it would have been 9. Most of that crew were from the Ukraine and what I saw all had naval experience as all came through naval educational facilities. This was confirmed when I also worked for a Malaysian company and had a Russian ch. eng. who also lived in the Ukraine , and tried to assist him in resettling in Australia. Russian merchant seafarers of what I saw nearly all had a naval background , and were dual purpose one might say. I rather think today but not sure that China may follow on these lines also. However Russian shipping will never be short of manpower as compared to the western world . However when you come into the realms of nuclear warfare , it is more like a computer game and the combatants are countries and seas apart .JS

Re: Ukraine
One report today puts thing in a very odd light.
According to a news broadcast from within Russia the body that replaced the old KGB were not informed of the war taking place.
A number of the Oligraphs who live in London are laying off staff as there is no work for them.
How long before these guys take it up to Putin, they are losing money!!!

Happy daze John in Oz.

Re: Ukraine
Poland has agreed to hand over its Mig 29 fighter aircraft to the Ukraine in return for American fighters.
The planes will be flown to Germany to be checked over prior to handover.
The Mig 29 is an aircraft that the Ukrainian Pilots are familiar with.
This move could be a game changer.

#192, Des, twice the Russians have offered safe passage to the people of Mariupol and shelled them both times.
They have now been offered safe passage by the Russian forces only if they travel to Russia.
Not much of a choice.

Re: Ukraine
The only country standing between Russia and Poland Vic is the Ukraine. The last time I was in Poland was in Gdańsk in 1969 and it was under Russian Rule then , so a large amount of that population will have memories of that. They have every reason to wish the best outcome for themselves and the others bordering the Ukraine , the ones that have their independence that is. Like most they are probably choosy about their neighbours and don’t want them hopping over the fence all the time to borrow a jug of milk. JS.
Did anyone find out what the Z written on the sides of the Russian hardware signified ?
My only solution to its meaning is it was used in Morse or flags to address shore stations. A shortened sign for GMT . Or the mark of Zorro. JS

Re: Ukraine
Vic 195, i see that the Nato are not happy with that arrangement, i think the talk now is for Ukraine pilots to come into Poland and fly them out, hence the contribution is from Poland and not NATO. Putin says it will be an act of agression, fine, lets do it and leave the next move to Putin , soon or later he has to be faced. Even if he conquers Ukraine he is going to have to leave a large army of occupation for many years to come, because the Ukraines can adopt terrorist type warfare for years, they will never submit.

As far as i know in the latest News that offer (The Mig Jets) has been rejected, as it could or would involve a possible start of a World Conflict!

Re: Ukraine
Yes Doc, saw that earlier, if plan proceeded it could be construed NATO was involved.
Latest plan is for Poland to hand them over directly, although Putin regards this plan as an act f war.

Re: Ukraine
Hi Vic.
There is one glaring fault with that, there are no airfields in the Ukraine that are anywhere reliable for them to land to refuel and rearm.
Also that the Russians have planes that will fly rings around the old Migs.

Re: Ukraine
Has anyone an early copy of the original NATO treaty in the basic
NATO stands for North Atlantic Treaty Organization or was I was always told to believe. It must have had basic alterations to its actual wording, as many countries well outside its geography now exist. JS
