Re: Historical documentaries
John, animals that kill only do so to either eat or protect their young.
Man is the only animal that kills for pleasure, or to claim more land, or for religious reasons based on some long lost concept of what is right or wrong.

Re: Historical documentaries
Was reading somewhere recently that scientists are getting closer to more accurately dating the existence of the earth , which so far is in excess of 500 million years , so what price is our punitive history. When we go back a few thousand and think we know it all. We are one planet among millions which has the possibility of life on. It is way above our comprehehension and think it always will be. Stephen Hawkings spent his life trying to fathom out such and doubt he even scratched the surface. On the face of it in the little future man has measured in earth centuries will commit his own non existence, even by just over populating and reproducing himself is a sure way of killing off himself. As far as climate change goes forget it , the earth itself will decide that and not punitive man with all his faults. So stick another steak on the barby and break into that next case of beer , the century’s are getting less and less to go. Cheers JWS

Re: Historical documentaries
Johno,
How about the house cat, it kills for pleasure too:
Cats kill 275 million other animals a year | Daily Mail Online
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/.../Cats-...mals-year.html
Cats kill 275 million other animals a year. Domestic cats are lethal hunters, killing at least 275 million other animals a year in Britain, a report showed today. The apparently cuddly pets prey on a number of declining and endangered species, including water voles and dormice, said the Mammal Society.
Cats kill up to 3.7B birds annually - USA TODAY
https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/...1/29/cats-wild...
Jan 29, 2013 · Cats that live in the wild or indoor pets allowed to roam outdoors kill from 1.4 billion to as many as 3.7 billion birds in the continental U.S. each year, says a new study that escalates a decades-old debate over the feline threat to native animals.

Re: Historical documentaries
Rodders, you are correct n that one.
we have always had cast and yes when young they will take mice and birds.
But as they get older get out of the habit.
But in general man is far more violent than any animal.
There have been species now extinct, but if man came from the apes why do we still have apes?
Evolution tells us that all forms of life morph and evolve into the new version.
Obviously something went wrong with man.

Re: Historical documentaries
Have has quite a few Dogs in my time and loved them all,i know how some feel when loosing a Pet and yes its real hard, but just me I have found Happiness in getting another and another to replace my last loved pet,it seems to get me out of that Rut so to speak, and get a renewal on life with the new Dog.
I never forget any of my past Pets, and they will all always be in my Heart ,but like most things in life we must go on and forge ahead!
Hope this may help those who are really down after a sad loss!
Cheers

Re: Historical documentaries
Just going back to the Original Subject
Last night watched a program here on Pay TV all about the Pharaohs etc
This one was about the Lost City of Ramesses 11 a most enjoyable watch and full of great new findings of the Lost City. Cannot go into too much but tells and shows the new found City buried ,with special Images .apparently the River Nile was once running very close by but for some reason the tributaries went dry and that left no water for survival, thus the decline of the City.
There is a lot more to all this of course but must be watched in full to really appreciate!
Wonders of this World never cease to amaze me!
Cheers
