How long before nations refuse to speak with others, or some idiot of the PC says something then taken out of context and all hell breaks loose?

Interesting comments last year by a few squaddies back from the Mid East. They had been sent newspaper articles by family saying is it like that there?
The comments by the soldiers was, 'where did these guys get their news from , this is so far rom the truth it is laughable'.

You are correct John I am not that naïve, as a result of the Famine be it through death or forced immigration the population was reduced by 20/25% over 1million died and over 1 million immigrated to the likes of Canada, USA , Australia. It was not just Ireland that suffered.
The Highland Potato Famine (Scottish Gaelic: Gaiseadh a' bhuntàta) was a period of 19th century Highland and Scottish history (1846 to roughly 1856) over which the agricultural communities of the Hebrides and the western Gàidhealtachd (Scottish Highlands) saw their potato crop (upon which they had become over-reliant) repeatedly devastated by potato blight. It was part of the wider food crisis facing Northern Europe caused by potato blight during the mid-1840s, whose most famous manifestation is the Great Irish Famine, but compared to its Irish counterpart it was much less extensive (the population at risk was never more than 200,000) and took many fewer lives (prompt and major charitable efforts by the rest of the United Kingdom ensured that there was relatively little starvation). The terms on which charitable relief was given, however, led to destitution and malnutrition amongst its recipients. A government enquiry could suggest no short-term solution other than reduction of the population of the area at risk by emigration to Canada or Australia. Highland landlords organised the emigration of about 16,000 of their tenants (chiefly to Canada); many Gaels made their own way to other destinations in the Scottish Lowlands or further afield and it is estimated that about a third of the population of the western Scottish Highlands (about 90,000) emigrated between 1841 and 1861.

Àfter Prestonpans came another defeat for the government troops at the Battle of Falkirk on 17th January 1746. The ease of the victory was a great surprise to the Jacobite forces, particularly as the English commander, General Hawley, was noted for his ruthless efficiency and brutality in the field. His "flight" at Falkirk and the subsequent mockery he received, no doubt contributed to the savagery of his reprisals after the Battle of Culloden on 16th April 1746. The savagery commited on the Highland people by Hawley and the Butcher Cumberland after the Battle, "beggars belief".

Having been at sea with several Highlanders I picked up an awful lot about Scottish history over the first few years at sea we spend a lot of time in school learning about all kinds of things and I think the one thing we miss out on is the history of the United Kingdom where it came from and how it got to where it ís . I was trying to explain to someone a couple of weeks ago the Queen Elizabeth II is actually only Queen Elizabeth the first of Scotland it seems beyond belief but we learnt things like that now they do all kinds of crazy things but none of them seem relevant to our own history

One will find, that in Scotland, the majority of pillar boxes do "not" have EIIR inscribed on them. This is because the Scots do "not" accept the current Queen Elizabeth as the second monarch of her name, as Queen Elizabeth I was never ruler of Scotland. Earlier pillar boxes with cypher were vandalised and even blown up, and because of this, most boxes in Scotland depict the Scottish crown.
