As mentioned whether it is £100, £200, or £300 it is not to be sniffed at. It was introduced in 1997 by Gordon Brown one of the few things of use that He did do. Along with the freedom pass and the increase in the Old age pension each year these financial gains for O.A.P.s really DO make a difference to a lot of people. There was talk of stopping or reducing these payments due to the recession and austerity by the conservatives a couple of years ago. Thankfully it never happened.

How come that the man of the household (a few have mentioned this)are getting letters regarding the £200.00 allowance.I receive a letter for £100.and my wife receives a letter for £100,at one time the husband did get it but I think a few were hanging onto it so the wives complained so now its halfy halfy.
    Regards.

Maybe the government gift is to enable you to buy a piece of coal when you go first footing on New Year’s Eve. It might even stretch to the bottle of wine also. Or are these old practices of yesteryear frowned on today. Hard to believe it will soon to be 2019, I still like to think back to 1959. Life was much simpler and enjoyable then. JWS
