The use of helminthic therapy to treat Asthma

It is a new approach to immunotherapy that until recently was only available at the research centres where it is being studied.

The seemingly radical idea that helminths (probiotic worms) might be related in some way to asthma is not a new one. As early as 1913

Helminthic therapy is not a cure, and that at best it can result in complete remission. Although all your symptoms will disappear if you experience remission the benefit depends upon continuing to host the probiotic helminth. Not everyone experiences total remission. It may be necessary to continue to avoid factors that triggered asthma attacks in the past, such as cat dander, if you want to avoid asthma altogether. Results can be very good, but this is no magic bullet and it does not work for everyone.

There are several people on site who post short, terse and sometimes uninformative posts, that mean something to the individual that posted them. They are perplexing and tiresome to myself and probably others who have an interest in the subject matter. PLEASE if you have something to say 'SAY IT' a slightly cryptic post like the above is irritating.

Fingers crossed it has helped mice ?

Research has been going on since 1913, like many things hopefully, one day it may or may not work, be proved or disproved, until then the tale goes on ? Possibly not for the mice ?

Seems Scientists at Edinburgh University found roundworms this year ?

The study was funded by the charity Asthma UK and was published in the Immunity Journal this week.

It was started in America in 1913, me thinks, just tell when all is proved, the worms and theories have been coming out of the closet for over a century.

As an Asthma sufferer, I have heard this all before, We all dream in our lifetime of cures hopefully in our time.

Fingers crossed for the big C to be answered before I get it.

    UNTIL THEN:

In every bit of honest writing in the world there is a base theme. Try to understand men, if you understand each other you will be kind to each other. Knowing a man well never leads to hate and nearly always leads to love. There are shorter means, many of them. There is writing promoting social change, writing punishing injustice, writing in celebration of heroism, but always that base theme. Try to understand each other.
    — John Steinbeck in his 1938 journal entry.
