Re: queens new years honours list
Keith I support Charities, out of my old age Pension, I donate by direct debit from my bank account, do I not deserve a Knighhood??
These celebs just appear or put their name to a Charity and NOT Necessarily pay out of their pocket. It is all a BIG Con job. Also they get Tax Relief from any donations.

Re: queens new years honours list
I KNOW, Comedian Ken Dodd did not go to prison for tax evasion. In 1989 he faced tax fraud charges at Liverpool crown court involving several hundred thousand pounds stored in the attic, under the bed, in suitcases, and offshore accounts. He was acquitted of all charges?
Money buys good defence ?

Re: queens new years honours list
Keith you didn't answer the question.
Keith I support Charities, out of my old age Pension, I donate by direct debit from my bank account, do I not deserve a Knighhood??
I can least afford it, Celebs can. I donate to Cancer Research UK , Heart Foundation and the Hospice, all out of a miserable pension that they make me pay a load of Income Tax on. so why , if celebs get a knighthood for supporting charities. do not the other non celebs get Knighthoods.???
What is the difference. ???

Re: queens new years honours list
Even though Dodd was acquitted, the verdict was marred by the estimated £2million tax bill he faced, made up of legal fees and around £825,000 in tax he promised to pay back whatever the trial’s outcome ?
Yet the Squire of Knotty Ash has been elevated to Sir Ken.
He and those Diddy Men must be tickled pink.
Unlike that Welshman ?

Re: queens new years honours list
The form to nominate someone for a UK national honour, as well as guidance notes on how to fill this out.
https://www.gov.uk/government/public...ational-honour
The honours system recognises people who have:
made achievements in public life
committed themselves to serving and helping Britain
They’ll usually have made life better for other people or be outstanding at what they do.
Civilian gallantry awards recognise bravery by people who have attempted to or saved the life of a British citizen who isn’t a family member or close friend. Nominations are judged on:
degree of risk
how aware the nominee was of the danger
persistence
Whether someone gets an honour - and the honour they get - is decided by an honours committee. The committee’s decisions go to the Prime Minister and then to the Queen, who awards the honour.
Who can nominate someone for an honour
Anyone can nominate someone for an honour.
Tell them.

Re: queens new years honours list
Many of us Seafarers have saved lives and attempted to save lives at great personal risk to ones self, But with no thought of demanding a Knighthood, the way that Celebs do. It comes with the job.

Re: queens new years honours list
No one can demand a Knighthood. They have to be both nominated and approved.
I can add an address for number 10 Downing Street for any one that may wish to complain.

Re: queens new years honours list
I Remember Sean Connery demanding a Knighthood even tho` he had lived in Spain and Bermuda for Tax Avoidance for around 40 years.
He was turned down again. He is a Scottish Nationalist even tho` he would Never live in Scotland. He is a republican but wants the Queen to Knight him.
He kicked up such a fuss that they eventually gave him one.
Many other celebs do that including footballers.
When REAL hero's get Nothing .
