Marian, never had any problem, shops refused to take Scottish money, just threatened them to walk out and leave the goods, soon changed their minds.
Did in M&S in lamington, big que behind me girl said can't Scottish money, me you can keep the goods, supervisor changed her mind.
Lot of shuffling of feet in que he behind, didn't care.

Regarding Tallow, just because someone says that the coatings on new bank notes contains tallow does not necessarily means that the tallow comes from animal fats, tallow is also a by product of the petro chemical industry and is also produced in large quantities by Shell in Ellesmere Port.

In 1964 While working in Macclesfield I went to a small supermarket. Mind you they were all small then .
She put my goods in the bag and seen I had a £5 note gave me my change. Fine so far.
Then she saw my Scottish note and said I can't take that . Ok I can, and I left the shop with Goods in a bag , change of my Scottish £5 note , plus my £5 note . Not a bad deal. She did run out the shop after me and told me she could take Scottish £5 notes after all.
Ah !!! remember goods and get change from Five pounds .

I never ever changed to English.
Pubs in Liverpool would ask me for Scottish ones.
Legal. the 19/6 rule was rubbish.
My sister had this trouble in Cardiff and she went out and got a policeman who charged the shopkeeper for illegal devalue of British money.
Up to the 90,s the Scottish £1 was worth more gold that the English one.
Other than my other posting today I have never had any trouble spending Scottish money

As industrial tallow can contain rendered pork fat, the use of the substance may also make the notes ‘haram’, or off-limits to practicing M's.

The Bank of England told Breitbart London that they did not know whether the tallow was derived from pork fat, as they purchased the polymer from a supplier as a finished product and it was added in much earlier in the supply chain. The bank is investigating the matter
