As Brian #18 says, take care in which company you cruise with and you will have a great time. There are still so many places to see and going back to some we knew all those years ago and to see how they are now. Stick with the medium size ships and no worries mate you will enjoy it.
When we flew home from Hong Kong to Stanstead after leaving the Good Hope Castle in Junk Bay for the breakers, we flew on a Dakota, just an Owner Driver and no cabin Staff.
The Pilot had bought the plane after his service in the Korean War and called it "AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL AIRLINES". painted like graffiti down the side on top of
the camoflage
No service at all on the plane, just a bucket to be used as a toilet. The seats were made of Iron, no cushions, and it took three and a half days to fly to London.
Freezing when up in the air and sweating on the ground. No A/C
The Starboard engine packed in and we flew most of the way on one engine, it was spurting oil and flames. I told the driver, a big Texan, he had a look
and said,"Waal ah guess that baby don't like oil no more", and went back to his seat.
It must have cost Saf Marine peanuts to hire him.
