Another mass killing in the U.S. and while the pundits argue about who was behind it, they should also look at other facts that may, and I repeat may have been the cause of it. Apart from an organized terrorist attack which most conclude immediately, there are other reasons that could be a contributory factor. As seamen we are no prudes and have no wish to be. However over the past 20 years or so our western society has jumped from a fairly moralistic one to one where every pleasure legal or otherwise can be claimed to be the aspirations of a large section of humanity. One such case is the legality of sodomy, which is fair enough, however this is pushed in peoples faces on a daily basis, and emphasised it is the way to go. There are large areas of the community who have for thousands of years been brought up to consider such a blasphemy and will continue to do so. Yet we invite these people to live alongside us. The media to a certain extent magnifys this by publicising it world wide on the excuse of it being news. I believe and have always believed that this mistaken idea that different forms of religious beliefs and morals will never co-incide, and while we wait for dithering brain dead politicians to admit they were wrong we are going to see a future fraught with such incidents for years to come. John, the powers that be often speak of the wonders of multiculturalism but is this realy true? So many different groups, religeous or otherwise, are opposed to much of what the West revels in. Why Orlando occurred may never be known but the fact remains that there are many such as this guy who will given the chance hit out.
Then there is the matter of guns and the availability, that will never change in USA as long as the gun lobby exists. Even though many citizens say they are opposed to guns they will never be removed. The manufacturing of guns and munitions creates employment on a very large scale, no gov is going to take that away.

The worrying part now is that some copy cat killer will emerge from all of this.

For some 20 years Tasmania held the record of 35, now up to 49 how long before maybe 100?

Hi John, John.
In today's paper there is a report of a sheik who preached in Orlando last year that homosexuals should be put to death, I believe that the killer was at the sermon, The sheik? is now in Australia preaching the same thing, but back peddled saying that in the Moslem countries they are put to death but he didn't advocate it in the west. As you say John our youngsters are baffled by what they not only see but what they read and on the web, we have leading politicians advocating same sex marriage just to get GALEB votes. I can see Trump going to town as nearly all the deaths were of Latinos, he would turn a blind eye maybe if they were all white. The Western world is going to hell in a basket.

Every time you switch a TV on to watch a show there are aliens and queers employed in the cast. Is this to make some sort of statement. The Gay Mardi Gras in Sydney is another statement, what are they trying to say. Just the other week here one of the would be politicians had himself on a poster dressed as a member of the armed forces as is or was in the reserves, and was ex SAS. He was told to take the picture down which he refused. He has now been thrown out of the Reserves. And yet permission was giving for the same army to display themselves as Gays in the parade in Sydney. We are becoming a nation of puffters and obviously proud of it. Let every person as long as it is in the realms of legality choose their own sexual deviations and not bring others or try to inveigle them into what some still consider immoral, unhealthy, and lacking in personal hygiene. Sex belongs in the bedroom and not on the streets of our cities. Thing is today people are afraid to voice their opinion on what was considered delicate subjects in fear of rocking the boat. Which today is really debauchery dressed up to appeal to those so inclined. JWS

It has no need to go stomping round the world bombing other countries.
It said on TV yesterday over One and a Half Million Americans have been SHOT Dead in the last 60 years,
I guess that says it all. That is more than they have lost in wars.
It is safer to live in Afghanistan.

John #4 that my friend is now the way of the world. If you ae not one of those people in funny dress or gay then you are on the outer.
Between those two entities the world now revolves.
We saw them in our days at sea and never worried about them, they stuck with their own and never bothered any one else.
Now it is shoved down our throat each and every day, as another celebrity or sports person 'comes out'.
Even now have a 'gay' AFL match once a year.
My main concern now is the way things arte going it may well become compulsory in time.

why sell high powered automatic weapons firing up to 600 rounds a minute to anyone who wants to own them even the Kevlar jackets the police ware are useless against them? I can understand states that have bob cats bears wolves alligators etc but vote against guns and you get nowhere in politics if Americans want the right to bear arms let them role their sleeves up . whatever your sexuality is you just don't take another life for any reason..jp

Hi Gulliver.
The biggest mass killing in Australia was in Tasmania and it is said that he was a closet homosexual. The bloke that shot up that night club in Orlando is reported to be a closet Homosexual who according to some news reports was disgusted after a liaison, he was a regular patron at the club. We have had homosexuals here killing their partners, they are human beings therefore will kill.

Gulliver #7, it was only a year or so ago that the gov here in Victoria said sorry for persecuting homosexuals until the early 80's

But sadly there have been a number of murders of same mainly in Sydney. Jealousy knows no bounds at times.
However I agree that the attitude of those in funny clothes to kill all of them is beyond the pale.
