    Venron,

I have no idea but your post #15 wasn't there when I replied to Vic. with what is now shown as thread #16 which shows that it had been edited by yourself.

Just because you cannot find it Chris, it doesn't mean that it did not exist.
I know that Dunlop ships had no connections with Cayzer and I am not suggesting that they had.
    Regards
    Vic
I did not say it did not exist, I just said I could find no record of its existance.
Strange that it is not mention in any of Charles Cayzer's biographies nor in the history of Clan Line or of Cayzer Irvine.

Just because you say there is a record does not mean that the ship did exist. If it did I think more corroboration is required because most of the documentary evidence suggests otherwise.

    Chris,

Its no big deal, Vic found the reference and used it as a quiz question, good for him, defeated all of us. I accept his word and have no reason to disbelieve him nor do I expect any further proof or corroboration, Vic's word is good enough for me and I am sure the others who took part. Well done Vic look forward to another challenge, you certainly find them, great fun.

I posted one yesterday with the following but somehow it has vanished.

In 1853 there were five ships Union, Briton, Saxon, Norman and Dane all of 530 tons.
According to records they afre the first five ships bought by Cayzer.

Wo Wo Wo.... I am doubting Vic at all I am simply saying that when only one piece of evidence exists and many pieces say different that it is right to question it. My own web site is proof of that. I would love to enter a newly found ship into the history of the Cayzer venture and I will use Vic's find as a basis for further research.

I must add that the notice Vic states is a notice of intention it does not prove that it happened.

I have searched Miramar and no trace can be found of the ship under either name nor any ship bearing that number.
I will keep on with the search.

That's the right attitude Chris, because we all learn something from this site, we think we have completed a project and then a new avenue appears that starts us on a new path. We learn so much from this site, other peoples experiences, other peoples research, long may it continue, and the quizzes of course even though I don't answer many and those I do, I get the spelling wrong!
