The other pubs by the Huskisson was Mabels and the Boathouse, `Broken Nose Jacks`.
we used to keep our Fire Watch in there while on the Cunard boats.

Hi Jim,
here is my mate Tommy Miller, he seems to be the incredible shrinking man.
I wrote about him in the story of the old Franconia where we locked him in the stores lift with a dead steward for half an hour and he was demented after. Never been sober since. That was in 1956.
He wrote the book, A PIER HEAD JUMP. about the early part of his life at sea. quite entertaining.

Brian I certainly wouldn't recognise him from your photo and the video.He said one of the guys in the carving was General Cuszco ???/.
His John Prescott story was,he was in the Market Diner When John Prescott walked in,this yank said to JP I want a word with you you Limey bum,JP didn't like that and gave the Yank a smack.He liked the North Wales egg throwing incident and JP's reaction.

Hi Jim
Tommy is now in his late 80s , I have a photo somewhere, where he is quite young and looks completely different and bigger. I will have to try and find it when I get a bit of time.
he was a bit of a celeb in Liverpool at the time, did a bit on TV about Liverpool, and was also the Galleries Manager of the Maritime Museum Albert Dock
When I was drinking with him many years ago, someone reported that they saw, `Alehouse`[me] and Tommy trying to climb up the Down escalator in Lewis`s and Tommy was shouting , "These Stairs wont keep still," so they broadcast that on the Billy and Wally show.

Anchor out port Ivan its there OK.Think Pisco was the drop off anchor port.

There must be Two Cuscos Charlie,
I flew from Lima[Calleo] to Cusco in the Andes Mountains to get a train and bus to go to the lost city of Machu Picchu, I have a lot of photos of it in a valley surrounded by snow capped mountains.

That is the one I went to on the way to the Inca trail to Machu Picchu

I have been all over Peru on google and can only find one Cusco,

Brian Pisco was the anchorage Cusco cargo was dropped off at Pisco then transited to Cusco,which is were you see it.
My first post probably was the bogey should of stated first off.Never actually went to Cusco but did carry cargo for there each time with PSNC.Sometimes would only be one sling of cargo.Cheers.

That's it Charlie was always 'cargo in transit' the drop off ports were Pisco and Pimental for Cuzco, also people say they went to Bogota or Quito, again rather difficult because they are also in the Andes, but their drop off ports being Beunaventura and Guayaquil, how do I know this, because I spent most of my apprenticeship stuck down hot sticky holds on PSNC ships trying to find that alusive case that could be 'overcarried' to the next port which had no access to final destination and of course PSNC would have to pay the re-shipment and demurrage costs, and of course it would be the 'cadets' fault because he let it be left on board' Longest stretch I did down a hatch with only breaks for meals (not sleep) was 57 hours, yep 57 hours, could you imagine 'elf n safti' today. I learnt to cap nap on rolls of barbed wired and other odd and sometimes smelly cargoes, and keeping some one down there all that time defeated the object of the exercise because the stevedores had a field day pilfering whilst I was cat napping. Many destinations labelled on crates were never accessible by sea,

Think ,what happened,,Jim ,was .i was hoping to get to the Strand.Along the Dock- Road .. Realising it might may be too far.We headed then,up to the nearest ,Main Drag.
Forgot to mention ,previously, There was A Sgt. talking to his Constable. Mebbe, showing by example? to the Constable. Says to us ."What ship ?",or something. Told us to ,Take A Walk ,first. and sober up. When we,thought prudent ,.Returned . Sgt. had gone ,too. Re. The Year. Yes, looking at the Book, it was June ,1951. Paid-off next day ,22nd.Other .Mersey related Pay-offs,being Feb. 1950 .Birkenhead.(Thistledale). Jan. '51 . Liverpool (Kindiesel ).Had been towed -in by the Flying Kestrel. { Made all te papers, that time .The Vessel .having been in Distress,Irish Sea. ) Sept '62,signed on the , Caledonia,at Birkenhead. Paid-off Liverpool,late Nov.(Left ,from the Landing Stage ,on that one. Memorable Sat .Afternoon. the Gangs, Storing the ship, and the Baggage.were "On The Double" Anxious to get away, to the Everton V Liverpool game.)


Alway remember ,with Joy and happiness .With .there being so many ,Ships paying-off in Liverpool at any one time. The Scene, or rather Scene's ,at Lime Street Station .A steady stream of Taxi's arriving .An assembly of Porters with luggage trolleys, at the ready. As the contents emerged. Depending on whether they'd been at the "Docking Bottle ", or not. If so. .Being helped onto the Trolley ,alongside their baggage.Pulled, then up the Plarform. ,waving happily, To join the Many others ,of us ,waiting for our respective Trains.
