#77 JS, Down here in the south cappy is known as the "CALLA KID" he is a legend, one story is that he gets fish by fishy means and takes his haul to his one legged girl friend Mary who is a bare knuckle fighter known to us as "SWEET MARY AT OME", she wheels her wheel barrow through streets broad and narrow crying CALLA CHEAP CALLA at tuppence a throw, he's also got a scam going where he sells sniffs of his fishy fingers to his unsuspecting followers who think their getting something their not. We heard that he was last seen running for his life with the fisher girls after him, it seems he asked them to "feel my eel" they thought it was a conga eel and it weren't! cappy will say it's me bruvver. cheers,JC.
#78 We used to go to a lovely old country pub that was always crowded and had a smashing friendly atmosphere, the landlord had a great sense of humour and he fitted a bell to the door in the bar that led to the toilets so when the bell rang everything went quiet and all heads turned to the toilet door to see who had been in. Where I live is a 500+years old pub that was used by smugglers as it is right next to the river Thames it's a
lovely old pub that sell real ale and pub grub, up the road is a church and one of the graves has got grooves cut into it from where they used to sharpen their cutlasses. cheers, JC
#76 I have lots of memories of growing up in London, after the war people would go to the pubs for a drink and to socialise my mum and dad would take me with them I had to wait outside and dad would bring out a lemonade and a bag of crisp. I never got fed up waiting as I enjoyed peeping through the door and seeing everyone having a good time and hearing them singing songs like "Roses of Picardy" you wouldn't dare do that in todays world. cheers JC
#80, A few years ago we had a new health centre built where all the local doctors surgeries were rehoused, our old surgery was quite a big building
and I thought it would be converted to flats but I read in the paper that it is now a Mosque, "oh well".

#75. I've had a look online Doc this is what I've found. City of Edinburgh built 1821 purchased by GSN Co 1836 (Fate unknown) :
City of Edinburgh 366 tons, "Convict Ship" sailed from Dublin to Australia in the late 1820s and early 1830s and would carry female convicts one trip and male convicts on another, the info they give is about the passengers not the ship. I am sure you are right there. I have two sisters living in Sussex and that part does appear to be good. But it was London where I saw changes such as were warned about by Powell back in the 60's. How long though before the rot begins to spread to outer areas?Quote:
