Re Syrian peace talks now put on hold until the end of the month. What I said and probably many others was that once the Russians were into the conflict full time it would be over one way or another within 6 months. By the end of this month I would hazard a guess that all the civilian population including the rebels of all colours of political activity will be pushed back to the Turkish border. If Turkey opens its borders all well and good for the refugees. If they don't should imagine they will be contained where they are while the Syrian forces systematically go through them picking out the rebels. As regards the media showing the vivid pictures of displaced and mutilated people, what do they think war is, every soldier used to be taught to hate the enemy and his primary aim in life was to end his life. The bleeding hearts in the UK who demoralize our troops for supposedly not fair aggression against the enemy, should be made to be part of the armed services of their country for a time to educate them in what war means. Most live in a fools paradise of ignorance. As regards our own propaganda machine in Oz the ABC who have been stirring it up about detainees being returned offshore and emphasing the return of a 5 year old who was supposedly raped, this apparently has been investigated and proved false, he wasn't even 5 years old and was 10 and had consensual sex with another youngster. You will never see the ABC though publish that they were misinformed in the first place. If there is anything lower than the average politician it is an active fifth column. Cheers JS

During the past few years we have witnessed the public demise of the President of Iraq, the former opposition bandit to the Russians when they occupied Afghanastan, and the President of Libya. two of the three were former allies of the US. The present leader of Syria must think by past records it is safer to be opposed to the thinking of certain Nations, and must know he is a dead man if he does not come out on top, the same as all his army generals and loyal followers. I wouldn't mind betting there are many of the so called Syrian refugees are loyalists to the present government, but when they saw the most possible loss of such, wanted distance between themselves and any new government. Whoever succeeds in this power struggle, will have the usual purges and executions as has happened in previous interference by outsiders in trying to effect Regime Change. JS

Assad declared yesterday that fighting will continue until he has full control of the whole country, regardless of which opposing faction it is, all part of the peace process!

I have an open mind about Hassan. We are told whatever government department wants us to know. As far as one can gather the revolt started by an uprising of local political parties. This is quite common for such middle eastern countries. Certain countries of the west took part in backing the rebels and supplying them with arms and instructions. Further to this other non Syrian groups joined this melee further muddying the waters. In all it has turned out mainly an invasion of the Sovereignty of Syria as a whole. Hassan has obvious reasons for survival as can well remember what happened to Iraq. and also in Libya. As regards the Russians they will also remember the news programmes on TV showing US forces working with Bin Lid arming them and showing how to shoot Russian helicopters down in Afghanastan. This was all open for public display, and at the time proved interesting viewing for people to make up their own minds. People don't forget about the morality of both sides, when outside countries want to enforce regime change on others they should think twice, especially when they don't even understand the customs of the people. There will be many deaths yet, as every day many will die either through malnutrition or violence. When and if it ceases it will be forgotten by the next generation of political wannabees. However whichever way it goes it will not change anything, Democracy will only stay in force as long as it is beneficial to everyone. JS

united nations should just take over the place and sort it out? the UN an emergency meeting the other week over this fella staying in the Ecuadorian embassy yet they cant have a meeting over Syria? says it all. to many with noses in troughs some are bathing in it?? jp
