Re: North and South Pole
Thanks for that Marian, in 2009 I spent 35 days in the Antarctic, a wonderful experience, just like that, landing on the mainland in Zodiacs, surrounded by Penguins. We would sit on the ground eye level with them , they were very curious and eye to eye contact, then one would fancy you and lay a pebble next to you and that means he wants to build a nest with you and have chicks. All very friendly except that Macaroni Penguins, they are very grumpy.
The Elephant Seals can be dangerous, the males guard their cows very jealously, I got too near one taking photos of them and he chased me, I fell down an ice crevice head first and broke my collarbone and tore all the Clavicular Ligaments in my shoulder. That was nothing compared with what he would have done had he caught me.
South Georgia was very interesting, we visited Shackleton`s grave and had a small service followed with a Tot of Rum and a Tot is then poured upon his grave.
Lovely place. I think I wrote about the trip on one thread. cheers
Brian

Re: North and South Pole
Marion, hope you can name all the different types of ice shown. apart from the ice-bergs are the Bergy bits, the floe ice, the growlers, sheet ice, etc. etc. Probably a bit too salty however to put in your Pimms. Cheers JS
