always under the impression ships masters and mates were on much higher rates ....the responsability and skills warranted..... in my estimation much higher incomes but then the marine college in shields appeared over the years to have many more asian and indian students .......supply and demand ......in the 50s the indian and asians seemed to have very few vessels of there own .....the main competition i saw were the russians ...the hammer and scycle were every were in some right old bangers .....but such is life nothing lasts forever ....cappy
