some of you oldies may have used a speed-weve darner which was based on the simple mushroom with a little loomthat wove a new piece into the sok.
this was invented by my ex-father in law and he sold millions of them during the war and after when clothes were still rationed

My mother used to tie dusters to our feet and we had to slide around the wooden floors. Boy were we pleased when she finally bought fitted carpets. Now I get my 7yr old grandson to do the same....although his enthusiasm is waning....
Marian, I only ever remember lino on our floors I can honestly say I can't remember carpets in the house lino with what was known as a runner !!!!!!!!!! A rug covering the middle of the floor, Also remember the old candles when the Shilling went in the lecy meter, If it got really cold we would light them
Another thing that will stay with me during my schooldays in the winter I would wear my wellies outside my trousers, Then in the summer I would wear them inside, Who said flares were invented in the 70s I was wearing them years before that LMAO Terry.

remember carbide lamps on bikes and the gun you could make with a syrup tin and a piece of carbide if you spit on it and clamped the lid the pushed a lighted match through a hole in the bottom of the tin it would blow the lid off.
