The Mersey Tunnel holds good memories for me. I proposed to my wife driving though the tunnel in 1962. She accepted and we married in 1963 in Holywell Flintshire, thats 51 years ago. Still going strong..

when we were kids we would say to other kids there's a leak in the Mersey Tunnel, when the kid asked in amazement what happened we would reply,a farmer dropped it on his way through.

I can recall on certain Sundays during school holidays in the summer in the late 40's and early fifties being able to cycle through the MerseyTunnel from my home in Liverpool to North Wales. It was certainly hard going especially the climb at the Wallasey end.Out all day with my Raleigh Trent Sports fixed wheel bike with just a bottle of water to sustain me.
