Thanks for that Billy, similar songs to that were the rage in Japan in the late 50's and early 60's when the young were throwing off the shackles of centuries of serfdom. It brought back many memories of Japan of time spent there in that era and in particular of Michikco T--------(not a bar girl) in Shimonoseki who made a lasting impression and with whom I corresponded for some time, with her parents approval, alas her parents drew the line at the possible marriage to a 'round eye'. Who knows what might have been had she not been a dutiful and respectful daughter, her slenderness, tenderness and beauty are forever etched in my memory. I have so much to thank a life at sea for.
Another song was Mount Fugi, words that can remember were "She my fugi yama mama and I'M just about to blow my top. Fugi Yamama Fugi Yamamama, and when I get to fuji yama aint nobody gonna make me stop" much more of course but cant remember the words. On all the juke boxes. Obviously American and was when occupation troops were there. Jim Reeves and all the country and western songs, Frankie Lane, Johnny Ray. Eartha Kitt, That song Those were the days my friend I'd thought they"d never end was one of my favourites, as beleve Cappy mentioned once also. Will never see those days again, these were the days of losing all inhibitions, the war wasnt so long over, and the future looked bright. Somewhere along the line has been really ballsed up. JS

Someone must have stole years ago. Thought it may have been before 57, but there you are, was ashore in 57 for 12 weeks and thought I had the record then. Cheers and thanks JS
Certainly wasn't John, money never entered the equation, I was invited home for dinner ( a lowly 3rd mate) by the Shipchandler, Michikco was his daughter and there was an immediate spark which was even obvious to her mother and father, our times together strictly chaperoned but incredibly pleasant with the oft stolen kiss and the shy smile with the hand over the mouth. Indeed sublime days
I did three knots there knot in knot out and knot got my yen back?:p jp
Said my Sayonara's to Midori Matsunaga in Fukuoka, after a train ride from Shimonoseki in 1950. Did she ever cry (me too)! How come I remember all that after nearly 64 years? 'Cos she was a wonderful girl, we were both young and in love! My Disc Book reads a DR in Gen Conduct column, signed off in Moji, Dec., 24th '50 but that's part of another story. Cheers, Eric
