Dead right, remember leaving Glasgow late at night in mid winter and old man tells me he has had a letter from the 'Office' that 'you boys are not to go above the masthouse'. So after droppng off the pilot, stow the pilot gear AB's cost too much overtime, return to bridge to be told by father 'go and put my aerial up. Back out in half a gale and heavy rain, up the mainmast and rig his aerial. Back to bridge, now after midnight and back on watch at 0400.
Fabulous days, loved every minute. Great runs ashore with mates. Shame that Health & Safety and Quality assurance has ruined going to sea!!

Duff cooks still exist as do cheapo companies trying to save a few bob on catering costs
