Is this how Cappy started off?
Failed at first attempt but if at first you don't succeed then try, try, try again. LOL

If it was the same one , it has a great claim to fame in 1923 , long after Cappy left it http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S.S._%22Wimbledon%22_case

Remember seeing Cappy driving one of these maritime trucks the army had after the war on Whitley Bay beach. Used to charge threepence a ride, up and down the beach and into the sea. Know will always remember gave him sixpence and he gave me no change. This was 1947, so he must be getting on. My threepence must have accrued quite a bit of interest by now. Think he worked the South Shields beach, was his initial area of operations until they copped on to his excuses for having no change. Just drove this floatable truck over the river and carried on. He tried for a job on the Cutty Sark on her initial voyage, but turned up for the interview in his seaboots and walked over te skippers carpet, didnt help matters he had dog poo on the sole. Cheers John S.
