The Sea... One thing I can say with certainty, apart from all the waffle about so called contamination of the oceans ( apart from all the dead ships on the ocean bed), was always a much cleaner enviroment than over the land. Was nature, and still is, the world as was millions of years ago. Brings out the best in people, in not having to listen to all the crap of the so called intelligensa, who mostly wouldnt know their ass from their elbow. Those that go do go down to the sea in ships and have done for thousands of years learnt things that shore dwellers will never understand. To live with nature is one thing, to try and tell people about climate and such other changes by learning at University level is totally different. I often wonder at peoples knowledge as receive all sorts of acclimations by copying from other peoples sayings, and having no experience of their own. People who have earned their living from the oceans of the world would put a lot of these doomsayers about climatic change and other catastrophes in the shade, they can talk about bad weather a seaman prepares for it, knowing he is not going to change nature. So I would say to all these so called greenies accept what is going to happen as by God you are never in a thousand years going to alter.. Had 2 bottles of plonk tonight. Fortuanetley no do gooders or green people in company.. JS
Astronomer Royal, Lord Martin Rees when asked when will the world end said, in more than 5 billion year's time, But the sun is getting hotter and brighter and in a few hundred million years time it will become uncomfortable to be beneath it, by that time humans will have moved to other planets. Whatever man does will make no difference are we are a very infintissimal part of the planet and our actions will make not one iota of difference. Only the planet itself or an event such as wiped out the dinosaurs will effect it. I for one do not feel qualified to disagree with his views. So carry on troops, muster as usual for gin and tonics, rum ration, or ginger beer, or god forbid Horlicks!
or god forbid Horlicks! Ivan.
.
. Hi Ivan, for a bedtime drink I enjoy a Horlicks with a large tot of Rum or Whisky in it. beautiful.
I got it from Yates Wine Lodge in Blackpool,
All the pensioners were in there, Starting at 11am , gulping it down, they couldnt get enough of it. I tried it and lovely it was..
Cheers
Brian
Probably all sound asleep by lunch time.
Or found guilty of being drunk and in charge of a gopher. JS

Reminds me of one of the near obsolete ships of the time. The Master was well into his sixties. The company actually had people at the bottom of the gangway to stop people going ashore prior to sailing, he said he was going ashore to phone home. Had 2 pints in the pub where the phone was and came back. Questioned on returning to vessel was severely admonished and told if he was driving a car he would have been arrested. Said I am not driving a 60 mph car, I am driving a 6 knot dilapidated old wreck and stick your vessel, then went home. Got a frantic call to join vessel as was due to sail soonest. I didnt hear the story until came back 5 weeks later, or may have discovered I had severe medical problems prior to joining and for them to find someone else. My sympathys for anyone of the old school still at sea, as will probably have trouble coming to grips with some of the nonsense put out by the Brigade who make a living by telling other people how to do their jobs. #16... Brian got a bit confused he meant to say he drinks whiskey, with a large tot of Horlicks in it. Cheers JS
Having briefly seen the no alcohol modern way , and having seen the drink culture of the past on ferries , I believe moderation in all things works well , the trouble is being found in shocking default in cases like the Free Enterprise , I truthfully think we deserve what we got . The irresponsibility of a few has punished the sensible majority of moderate drinkers and abstained . The majority paying for the excesses of a small minority .
