John in oz, perhaps you had better read some more history, Henry 8 simply changed who was in charge and got all the money from the church not its beliefs that was left to Elisabeth his daughter. The protestant faith originated in Europe not Britain. before you make ill informed comments to back up your hatred for the EU get your facts right Martin Luther was not a UKIP member nor did he emigrate to Australia. Oh and I am not catholic and the recent EU book referred to is about the history of the EU and its member states since its foundation AFTER the second world war

Our political system here in Oz has been so corrupted that it beggers belief. Like fecking sheep there are those that still to this day will spout about how good this party is over that party without once standing back to see the damage that is being done to the country. I am not either a labour or liberal person but every bloody election I get bugger all choice in the end the way the voting system is designed to favour either one of them. That is where the UK has it over us here in Oz. Sure they might be minor parties but you have more choices than we do plus if the government of the day is so on the nose that the population that normally does not vote turn out to vote against them will alter the outcome for you. Unlike here where we line up like sheep on election day with the threat of a monetary fine if we do not turn up or use a postal vote. Hence so called followers of a party will be trying to sway the great unwashed masses to vote their way. Here in NSW we have an ICAC going on with many politicians being found out to be corrupt. This is a state thing but when it was suggested that this should also happen federally both Labour and Liberal canned that idea straight away. So please stop hissing down on me and try to stop telling me it is raining. It will happen one day and when all is exposed for the sham that is called parliment I just hope that there is enough left to work with to make this place great once again.
That's the way the mop flops.

My thanks to Brian for this site.

And by the same token our borders should have been protected better in the past. This money and handouts given to illegal immigranrts should never happen, these should be the first to see any reajustment to their lifestyle. As least at the moment he has down, to cut back on foreign aid which no doubt the greens will try and scupper. The monies that the UK pay to their invited guests courtesy of the EU will be the downfall of their system, the well as it could be here also. The sooner that governments recononize they are a servant of the people for their full term of their office, and not just on election night the better. As for students they should realize further education is not a right but a privilidge, people in all walks of life pay their way, they are no different, their behaviour at times should be punishable by being expelled from higher places of learning. Cheers JS

Not sure how M. Luther got into this as I see no reference to him. as to my 'hatred' of the EU as you tell it I am only going on what I know from reading and hearing about what they are doing. We all know the EU began as the inner six and the outer seven after WW2, it then morphed into the current system. But for my aspect on it, I can see little advantage for many nation involved as they are simply being used to prop up some poor countries who are only in that situation as a result of their poor governance over decades. As for Henry 8 he broke away from Rome because it would not allow him to divorce Katherine of aragon his queen at the time. That break away brought about the beginings of the Church of England as it is known today. He also went into Ireland and sacked all the churches and monastries there.
    Happy daze John in Oz.

The problem with the EU is that it is typical of many grandiose ideals put forward by politicians of the day. Its concept is great, lets create a block of countries that allows free trade between members and free movements of its citizens. This will not only create an economic power house but as its members have been knocking seven bells of hell out of each other for the past couple of hundred years this should prevent it from happening in the future. Sounds great doesn't it. So where did it all go wrong?
Well to administer all this we will need a "Parliament" but what sort? Well let each member country put forward a "Council" member who will be an ex. member of their own government who has a fine upstanding record , think N.Kinnock!!!!!, These council members will decide policy which is then debated by M.P.s elected by the population of the member countries. Now where will we site this Parliament? Well we have trampled all over poor all Belgium for the last couple of hundred years so we will have it there but just for fairness we will upsticks the lot and transfer it to another nicer looking place every 6 months as Belgium is a pretty boring looking country. Lets go to Stratsburg for 6 months every year, its a lovely city with very nice wine and good food...agreed.
    Getting my drift....sarcasm, me never!!!!
So now we have this institution that requires a huge body of back room staff full of self serving dodgy politicians who suddenly find that there are huge very easy pickings to be made once they get elected with a minimum amount of input of time and thought required by them
So an excellent ideal starts getting corrupted and feeding on its own greed decides to start imposing on its members laws and conventions that at times go against the grain of a number of its member states but this is all in the cause of creating a "level playing field" where everyone is equal...hah!!!!
These ideas start snowballing and the Council of Europe start inviting more and more countries into the fold with the grandiose idea that they are creating an even bigger economic power whilst also extending their influence not only locally but on the world stage and ensuring peace for all its citizen's.
Now this seems fine so as we are all now one nation lets have a single currency. Great but no one realised that in this great mix of countries with differing economies, some industrial, some agricultural, these economies need different systems. Industrial nations need low interest in order that they can invest in ew plant and machinery whilst agricultural nations need a different interest rate, but hey ho we are sure that one central bank will work with a interest rate to suit all, won't it and we will end up with a currency to rival the mighty dollar won't we.....as if.
So we now have an excellent ideal corrupted by inept politicians who are taking huge chunks of money for themselves whilst also making idiotic regulations about bananas and cucumbers.
Is it any wonder that joe blogs, your average man in the street, is confused, angry and wanting out of it?

Of course there is the other concept of such organisations, equality for all. But how do you find such equality, to do so it must be at the lowest comon level. So countries such as UK who have for generations worked hard to achieve something good have to now lower theirt standards and ideals so that some other country such as Romania, destroyed by years of socialism can climb up the ladder by maybe one or two rungs. The fact is equality is a myth perp[atrated by the likes of the socialist movements and others who envy those who have achieved by hard work a prosperous future. Of course the EU could end up like China where a small group of men, changed every ten years contorls totaly the people, not such a good alternative.
So as is often the case a good idea stuffed up by even better ideas.

Well John, Luther's protests against the Faults of the Catholic Church was the origin of all protestant churches , the clue is in the word. Incidentally most people in the EU are nominally not Roman Catholic. Only mentioned it because I am so fed up of no rational debate over the EU only thing you get is a curious mix of half truths ,urban myths , dreams of former glories, gross over simplification of history etc

As now being an outsider regarding the UKs future, unless of course I decided to go back there to live which I very much doubt, The only info. we receive are via press and news media flashes, which I suppose one cant accept as 100 per cent accurate. However the over population of the UK whilst mainly due to the laxness of previous governments, is applauded by the EU and is one of their rulings. This to me for starters is againstthe sovereignty of that country to make that decision for themselves. We hear the titilating things like the overbearing rules of the EU regarding hundreds of years of our history re weights and measures being discarded on their say so. In general we see the UK being ruled by the EU. If this is what the British people want as a nation all well and good, however it should be their choice and not some pompous twit wanting to buy another chateaux in France. All David Cameron has to do to clear the air is to go to the country and get the peoples support or non support for the present situation. No politician is capable of doing this it seems, therefore they are forsaken their sacred oath when taking office to look after the welfare of the people of the Nation. JS

According to the TV news today the EU elections are due to take place on May 22nd. The story showed a number of members of political parties and what they stood for. It showed that there is a lot of anger about the mmanner in which the EU is operating, to see so many extreme right wing groups putting candidates forward should be a concern for all.

I was living in UK when it joined the common market, a great concept whereby countries of Europe could trade with each other without problems. But then somewhere along the way it all changed from a market to the gargantuon conglomerate of today. From an outsiders view it would appear the only ones who benifit are the ones in charge.

    Hi John S.
Cameron is said to be giving us a referendum in 2017 if he gets into pwer again. this will be Seven years after his first promise.
In that Seven Years, Britain has been flooded with immigrants from europe, all entitled to vote, obviously FOR europe.
So if that is Not Vote rigging, shipping in Voters, then I am a Dutchman, ] or soon will be,] How bent and Corrupt is that, and No One questions it.
