The dangers of taking a cruise
As if its not enough that you may end up with delhi belly or sharing your cruise with walking disaster area Brian, or finding out that you are the only English amongst 3000 german passenger or even worse , you have mistakenly booked a bible belt cruise where you are subjected to daily lectures by mid-western bible thumping Pastors who decry all alcohol and procreation for pleasure.
This could happen to you.

Re: The dangers of taking a cruise
Hi shipmates. For all of you who have forgotten safety aboard chapter 19 of your seaman ship hand book to be read everyday ashore ?quote accidents are costing shipowners vast sums of money but the cost to some unfortunate injured seaman i.e {Captain Kong} in life-long misery and suffering and this cannot be measured in terms of money... so no short cuts accidents can happen to you, so dont put up a derrick, while intoxicated {stay in the bar}

Re: The dangers of taking a cruise
Most of these bugs are brought on board by already infected Passengers. You can be infected with the Norovirus bug for up to ten days before you know it. I understand from some of the Crew members the amount of Passengers that come into the Dining Room without using the anti bacterial gel containers is unbelievable. It understand there are more of these Gel containers on board than you'll find in any Hospital. This is only what Crew Members have told me. Maybe those of you who have travelled on today's Cruise Ships can confirm or deny this.

Re: The dangers of taking a cruise
I have had no problems and have been doing world cruises since I retired in 1995.
I am very selective of my ship and destinations.
I always sailed with Cunard since 1995, Caronia, QE2 for many years, and then Queen Mary 2, my last one was two years ago on Queen Elizabeth, by then they had flagged out to Hamilton, Bermuda, and standards went down with the employment of eastern europeans in the Catering instead of the usual Filipinos. They were Ignorant, arrogant and downright unhygenic. So I have finished with Cunard.
I have sailed with Holland America, three times now, Far superior than Cunard. The Staff, the Masters and Mates and Engineers are all British and Dutch, all members of Nautilus, I always take my card with me. Good for getting invited to parties, So the Officers are all Professionals.
The ships are Registered in Rotterdam and not in Gongolululand, with the Dutch flag.
So have a lot of confidence that we are in good hands,
They also have the best Itinery of any cruise Line.
I always join in the States so there is always a Lack of europeans on with us. Mostly American and Canadian passengers and have always had a good time with them. My last one this year was Fort Lauderdale Florida to South America via Panama and then the South Sea Islands all the way to Sydney, 38 days and fantastic, on board we also booked again for next February to the Pacific Islands again from San Diego. The Pacific Islands are the only place to go to in this world these days.
It sure beats the hell of going to the Med and any european country.
Cruising is fantastic if you choose wisely. I would not do anything else.
Cheers
Brian

Re: The dangers of taking a cruise
Whilst it is recognised that Sydney is the worst port to sail from with ships that ciontract a bug, it must also be recognised thta in most cases the bug is brought on board by the bloods. On two cruises the ship has had four days in quarentine nad in each case the persons with the bug all ate or drank ashore in some very dubious places. Many of the ports of call have bars and restaurants where the hygine standard is not good, and i have seen many a passenger fail to wash their hands after the dunny. Her in doors says she has seen a number of females acting in a similar manner.
As to safety, on the last ten day cruise with royal caribbean there were two lifeboat and safety drill for the crew. On a 14 day with Princess there are normaly three such exercises. On the one P&O cruise I did................none.

Re: The dangers of taking a cruise
Just wondering if any members who have enjoyed a cruise can answer is it de rigueur for passengers to have their photograph taken with the Captain [not Kong
] of the ship?

Re: The dangers of taking a cruise
marion the people seem to be obsessed......at even seeing the captain on cruise liners ....having a photo taken with him is like winning the lottery and to sit at the captains table is like dining with jesus to say the least......it is pretty nauseous to see some of them fawning at the site of him .....while he has a plastic smile and pretends he loves listening to there stupid questions ......ie if i fell overboard captain would a shark eat me whole ....while he is dying to say no maam it would probably spit that out........his answer would be no maaam one of my gallant hairy ars.dsailors wil jump in kill the shark and we would turn round in a flash and pull you aboard......you would then be invited to dine at my table.......at which poatint at least ten old biidys would leap over the side shouting shark help shark .....etc the captain will then go to the bridgeand in between banging another two or three maidens .......rescue the old biddies and no doubt get a medal.....if present times are anything to go by ...in case of accident hang on to said captain and survive....specially if he is continental......regards cappy
